Jags DID offer deal for #9

There is more to this story. They were to use the exra second to target Ingram

The Cowboys reportedly had Mark Ingram in their sights had they successfully traded down with the Jaguars in the draft.

Due to their high regard for Tyron Smith, Dallas reportedly rejected Jacksonville's offer to move to the No. 9 spot. Had they made the deal, the Cowboys would have used the extra second-rounder to move back into the first for a shot at Ingram. The front office placed more of an emphasis than expected on upgrading the backfield this season. Despite Jason Garrett's comments to the contrary, it's clear that Felix Jones is best utilized as a situational back.

So, if this was actually the case (we have no idea) then the question would be:

Are Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, and D Murray better than Anthony Costanzo, Mark Ingramn and Casey Matthews (for example)?

Guess we'll see.

That's fun. Some get annoyed with the second guessing. I like it.

I would have preferred they had traded down to #16. Pick #48 had significant value and if I said it once, I said it a thousand times.............

1) This team does not lack stars. It lacks enough good to average players to fill every role on the team and the required depth.

2) Star OL impact the game least. Below average players at OL GREATLY impact your team in a neagtive way 2nd only to QB. Give me 7-8 offensive lineman who can play without starring.

So for me the choice was clear. Trade down and acquire more selections. Then address more weak spots to give ourself the best chance to not have any in 2011.

I'll never forget Jerry Jones reaction when he heard the Jags were offering the 49th pick. He basically called it a garbage pick and wasn't interested at all.

How many years did we slide out of a decent pick and try to get cute and pick up additional choices that ended up with minor impact at best. For example LT would have not been an issue we had of stayed pat and taken McNeil instead of trading down for Fasno and the pick that ended up being Jason Hatcher.
Not many actually. Look it up.
2009 was a nightmare though and I agree that if yu like the player in that slot, no need to get cute.

I like what we did just fine. But I bet there will be a few Pro Bowlers taken after that "garbage" 49th pick before it's all said and done.

Exactly.

How many times do we have to see Tony Romo not be able to complete a season before we understand the value of a top-notch OL?

Smith had the highest grade of any OL. As far as I see it we're talking no trade Smith, Tony Romo and Bruce Carter vs. trade and a lesser OT, Ingram and maybe no Tony Romo to finish the season.

So....Dallas would have gotten a mid-2nd to move down and miss out on Tyron?

Not worth it.
