Jaguars | Dez Bryant removed from draft board
Tue, 13 Apr 2010 00:01:16 -0700

The Jacksonville Jaguars are likely to add a wide receiver in the NFL Draft, according to Michael C. Wright, of The Florida Times Union, but it isn't likely to happen with their 10th overall pick in the draft. The Jaguars have had several bust wide receivers taken in the first round previously. According to multiple NFL sources, the Jaguars have eliminated Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant from their draft board because of character concerns.

The Jags would rather draft Tebow and convert him to receiver.

Character concerns?

I understand if they think the kid is too dumb.

But character concerns?

As far as I know he has never gotten in trouble with the law or in school for disciplinary reasons (other than the whole deion fiasco)

Sounds to me like the Jags are just snake bit.

I heard the browns took him off their board as well. But I don't have a reliable source to verify it, I read it on some board.

If Dez falls to the 2nd rd when the Jags are on the clock, I assume he will magically reappear on the Jags draft board.

its not that dez is dumb, he had to have special education while at school for learning curve, etc...

I just read the article (see attached) and it also says they may not have any 1st round grades on receivers. I assume this means other than Bryant. Del Rio (not GM Gene Smith) said they are still open minded about picking a WR at 10.

All I know is that their new GM did an outstanding job in the draft last year--maybe the best in the league. They had not been drafting well in previous years, but this is a different regime.

It's easy for them to say they won't draft Bryant, as they have a bunch of needs elsewhere and plenty of good players that match those needs that grade right around the 5-15 slots (they pick 10th).

I am not saying he is dumb.

Just the reports coming out that the media is focusing on could lead some to believe he is.

I live in Nacogdoches and have heard he is a good natured, sweet kid.

Rotoworld reporting dez is off the jags and browns boards.

Dumb people typically do do things.

I don't blame any team for not wanting to invest that much money in an idiot.

Hopefully 11-26 remove him for their boards as well.

I'm with you, I think at least. I think he is dumb as well and I still would take him. I think WR is one of the positions you can be dumb at and still be successful.

Several teams did this to Randy Moss including the Cowboys.....hmmmmm do you think if hes sitting there at #27 they'll bite on Dez Bryant ?

Randy Moss had a bigger history of being a knucklehead than Dez Bryant coming out of college. He couldn't stay on with Florida St. who would take anyone. That said a lot at the time.
