Jake Ferguson recorded the 2nd-highest run-blocking grade among TEs in Week 1, per PFF

I'm one that believes in Ferguson and the TE group. Bad day in bad weather in a hostile environment with little to no action in preseason. I'll give him a pass on receiving, but that's surprising on the blocking front.

Ferguson will keep getting better each year. We will chose not to resign him, get a comp pick, roll with Schoon and draft a TE high again / repeat process

Jake Ferguson averages about 1 reception per game. The blocking is nice but it’s 2023 and it’s a passing league. There’s a reason the Cowboys reached for Schoonmaker.

I have a feeling the Jake Ferguson fans have a lot of overlap with the Zeke fans. People that don’t know which millennium we’re currently in.
Brilliant analysis given that Schultz was the starter last year.

I’m not shocked Ferguson is starting over Schoon, but I am surprised how much run Hendershot was getting as the apparent #2 TE.

It looked to me like Ferguson was trying too hard and pressing. Hopefully he calms down and plays within himself the rest of the way.
He probably was. I’m a fan and I believe he’s our tight end of the future. Probably was trying to do too much especially in those conditions. That being said I disagree with the poster saying tight end was a wasted pick.

I agree with what McCray said on players lounge. One more game like that and I'd have to see schoon take some targets from him.

Yeah I agree. Well I mean if it happens this week. If he gives us a string of solid games then yeah might hold off on it.

you can't go by his previous numbers with schultz taking majority of the work in front of him. that's recency bias...look at what's happening today. He was targeted 7 times. He will get a lot of targets going into the season - the whole bengals roster couldn't even catch the ball in the same weather conditions i would cut him some slack. Target workload will be there going forward and he will produce because we won't have that type of weather week in and week out.
Yes, old boy, the potential thing. My, at 11 yards receiving for the day, the lad has nowhere to go but up!

Im not. In the context of Schoonmaker missing most of the pre-season it makes sense he’s behind in development. I’m expecting a Damone Clark type rookie season from him.

good to hear, I am admittedly bad at watching blocking during live action, unless something is obvious or showed again in replays

I’m shocked at Fergusons and Hendershots drops.

They went to Wisconsin and Indiana! They should be used to crap weather!
Well, on the first one by Ferguson, it was easy to see that he didn't look the catch in and was instead already in runner mode before securing it. It being his first game as a starter could account for that overeagerness.

he was a rookie playing behind an entrenched starter. lets let his career breathe for a minute
