We keep excited about JAGs like Turpin, Brooks, Cropper when they look good against bum CBs in camp. How many reps did any of them have vs Diggs or Bland or even Lewis in camp the last two years? Not many.

The opposite is true too. The rookie, Carson, looked great covering our lousy WRs in camp and had no time vs Lamb or Cooks, and look what he did when he had to play against real NFL receivers. We need to find real NFL quality receivers with speed or suddenness or expert route running so they can separate from coverage. Without those guys, our offense suffers mightily and we never know what we really have with young guys in the secondary.

In hindsight, we should have kept Tyron Billy Johnson last season; at least his deep speed would have been respected enough to help others find space.

I mean Turpin has a place in an offense that wants big plays...not this offense though...

if they hire Shott i dont think thats what will happen, he isnt known for his pass offense...ask Russ.

The year we beat Seattle in the playoffs they wouldn't let Russ pass the ball. I felt like we were in trouble when they did but inexplicably they kept forcing the run. Come to find out it was Schottenheimer behind the wheel. Lol

If he has not made his impression to make the team in the last two years now. When many fans think we have one of the weakest WR groups on the NFL. He won’t make it again If he has not cracked that low level group on the sites of fans.

We seen this for the past 15 years, a group of WR”s in TC that fans are high on, it never made that impact. And it may continue depending who the HC is, and if Jerry allows them to have that control.

I kind of liked what I seen from him, but was still not overly impressed either compared to some of the other.
Tyron Billy Johnson was in the same boat.

Over the last decade or so I'm just not sure many players have went from barely playing to contributing at WR....I'm sure there are some, Noah Brown I guess? Overall though it just doesnt seem to happen with any sort of frequency and just based off league history it seems like Cropper has long odds. I might be missing an obvious example, but I just can't think of very many who have had similar career paths at WR. Needs some time to develop is fine, but thats also just another way of saying that he isnt very good....especially as a guy is entering year 3. Developmental time is about over and he needs to show something on the field to stick. To me he just seems like a gadget and special teams guy, and probably a long shot to make the roster if Turpin is brought back.

Even Tolbert I would tap the brakes on. Some are high on him because he put up solid #3 WR numbers, but neglect the fact that he did that by getting #1 WR snaps. He ran the 18th most routes in the league this year, but was outside the top 50 in both catches and yards. His metrics from 2023 to 2024 really didnt improve very much...the biggest improvement Tolbert seems to have made was simply getting more snaps from the guys above him missing time. I think he is good enough to be on the roster, but I really hope the plan isnt to pencil him in as Cooks replacement. Very good rotational guy, but I dont want him getting nearly 900 snaps again in 2025.

Obviously I love Lamb. I'm cautiously optimistic on Flournoy, but outside of that I'm just not very big on this WR group at all as far as having guys that could be starters.
I'm also not all that high on JT. I don't expect a major jump in 25 either. The guy looks like he really has to work to make any catch and he doesn't get a lot of separation. If you had a legit #1 and #2 Tolbert would be a good #3.

This guy was my pet cat during 2023 draft season. I knew he'd take a few to develop, but I'm hoping to see him have another strong camp in 2025. Anyone else think there may be potential there. I'm about to start looking at the draft in a few weeks. But for now, I'm just pondering our current, young prospects.
Depends on if they resign Turpin.
He may be able to partially fill that role as a returner and occasional gimmick receiver!

Agreed, we finally started using Turpin, but his size prevents him from playing much on the outside, along with his value on special teams.
We need an outside receiver with speed or great route-running or another Lamb type who isn't fast, but fast enough to get some separation and provides great YAC with the ball in his hands.

Personally, I think the draft will pan out with great options at WR in the first, RB in the 2nd, and DT in the 3rd

They may not be as highly ranked as you think or that you want he's more known for his rush game you know but Russ had some of his best years with schottenheimer at oci know what's going around here but that doesn't mean his offense is gonna look exactly the same as it used to I mean that's what you think but Mike McCarthy is passing offense didn't look that good the last two years are you telling me that that looked great? I mean at worst we're probably gonna get something very similar to what we've seen the last couple of years but with more emphasis on the run game..

again, I'll have to find it later but I saw stats that back this up, it's not important right now because he's not the head coach here but , Shottys/russ partnership always had a top 10 offense in total offense /points scored OR better, and add emphasis on the run game...

If you go take a look at 2018 through 2020 those three years he was the OC in Seattle when Russell Wilson was the OC in Seattle they had 4000 or more yards of offense he had 31 touchdowns 35 touchdowns and yes 40 touchdowns passing touchdowns those three years, doesn't sound like that was a bad passing offense.... I know Russell Wilson has a lot to do with that but if we're cross referencing those three years with Russ and schottenheimer together it doesn't look that bad to me especially that they use the run game a lot... So all three of those years Russell Wilson still went to the Pro Bowl in 2019 he was second team all pro offensive player of the year or at least had votes I don't know how to read these charts and he was also a pro bowler. thats also a 10-11-12 wins those 3 years it got better across the board BS OC was NOT bad..

Don't we try to insinuate or infer whatever good word you wanna use that Brian schottenheimer was a bad offensive coordinator for Russell Wilson because I just looked it up and it was quick look up too it didn't look that bad to me... It looks like russ's last three years without Brian schottenheimer were his worst years...

Under Schottenheimer Seattle's offense was....

2018 - 18th in yards
2019 - 8th in yards
2020 - 17th in yards

You've spent months talking about how bad the Cowboys offensive coaches have been, and now that Schottenheimer looks like he might be getting the job it turns out their OC this year is actually pretty good?

He was an interesting UDFA, but he was an odd man out in a weak field at WR. Im not expecting him to make the roster. He'll probably have alot kf competition to get on the PS

Exactly.
Your post is spot on. Especially your well explained Tolbert production based off increased snap opportunities because of Cooks absence.
Tolbert is a low end WR3 at best.
And he is currently the best WR option behind Lamb.
That is not good.
A legit WR2 is needed badly as Cooks most likely won't be re-signed.
Flournoy, Cropper, Mingo, Brooks and whoever else makes up this year's WR room are still projects.

Yeah I could live with guys down the depth chart competing or rotating in that WR3 role, especially if Turpin comes back, but getting someone from outside the organization to put into Cooks role is a must.

Yeah, probably. I think chances are one of our guys develops and steps up, even if that guy is Turpin. But I still think they go after another WR, somehow, someway.

I think of who’s likely to be there at 12 a WR makes good sense no matter who the HC is. But we do need another RB and we need to keep dowdle. But it’s easier to get a RB later than a WR. Burden is a good prospect but what I like most about him is his ability once he gets the ball
