AS I just posted about A.Haynesworth in another thread: "Once a fat, lazy clown ALWAYS a fat, lazy, clown."

I am all for a rookie salary cap.

part of me feels the money should go this way
1 - $1 million
2 - $950,000
3 - $949,000
4 - $948,000
32 - $920,000
2nd round starts at $850,000
3rd round starts at $750,000
4th round starts at $650,000
5th round starts at $550,000
6th round starts at $450,000
7th round starts at $350,000

part of me feels this way
Round 1 starts at $500,000 (1st overall pick gets a $25,000 bonus for being picked 1st)

the value of each pick goes down by $1,000 per draft pick, with Mr. Irrelevent scoring a contract for $275,000.

part of me feels this way
all rookies receive the rookie minimum. the first round players get a signing bonus, starting at $32,000 for the first pick and ending with $1,000 for the 32nd pick.

as far as UDFAs, all of them are signed for the $25,000 immediately after the draft. If they make the team, they then get signed for the league minimum.

All rookie contracts run 3 years, with an option to renegotiate after the second year.

IMHO, all three options are far superior than what we have right now. Imagine of the business world acted like the NFL, where some kid right out of college made tons more than respected and established members of the business community. It would turn the business world upside down. Players should have to work their way to millions, not just be handed them as rookies fresh out of college. I have no issues with the amount of money players make, but I do have a problem with which players are getting the money.

JaMarcus Russell reportedly weighed in at 271 pounds when he reported for workouts earlier this week.

While 271 pounds doesn't sniff previous reports of Russell ballooning up to 300 pounds, it's still quite a bit heavier than his listed playing weight of 260.
So less than 5% heavier than his listed playing weight is "quite a bit heavier?"

And someone is getting worked up about this in March?

Why don't we find someone who can verify his weight or better yet, wait until July when this issue matters more.

the issue matters immediately. if work outs start and he wants to start throwing to his WR;s and hes moving heavier and cant finish a work out or show the coaches hes ready to do it now, than they have to start thinking now.

When you start working out, its not just the weight room, you start going through the motions, you start moving that body, you start conditioning right now.

Any coach who is serious about this year, is starting now, not down the road, not in July, not in September, they have already started and it means everything now.

Russell would have been better off staying at over 300 lbs then the Raiders could have moved him to the OL to see if he could play there.

Sounds reasonable and I understand your points. However.....

Remember we are speaking about a team that drafted Russell with the first overall pick in the draft then waited over four months to sign him basically wasting his rookie year.

But wasnt he practicing, throwing the ball, learning the playbook and staying in shape.

case in point, even tho Emmitt Smith was in contract negotations, he was still in football shape.

Problem with humongous is that he really does not have the drive.

And people still want Dallas to draft Dez Bryant.

He doesn't have a weight problem, but he has an "I don't give a crap" problem, which is similar to Russell.

If guys can't get out of bed to play football, then forget about 'em.

So the Raiders do things "differently" than say a regular NFL team, or a 15 year old playing Madden in franchise mode.

What if he was married to Hedi Klum ? I wouldn't want to out of bed ever.

It doesn't matter now and won't matter then. What matters is that he still can't read defenses, make good, quick decisions with the football and is not an accurate passer.

I bet you wouldn't say that if you were standing between JaMarcus and the free food samples at Costco.
