Every single story like this cracks me up cause I said from the get go that this guy was a loser, a waste of a pick, and would prove to be one of the biggest mistakes in NFL history.

I'm not shocked, at all, that he's turning out exactly this way.

At least Alex Smith tries to get better. Same with Brady Quinn.

I still remember some people here laughing at me for saying that I wouldn't trade Romo for the top pick in the draft that year (Jamarcus Russell).

Jamarcus, McFadden, Gallery, Huff, Heyward-Bey, etc. All high picks who didn't deliver. And that is why the Raiders suck.

This, to me, is the biggest reason the NFL seriously needs to reduce salaries of Rookies who get drafted into the NFL and structure things more towards Vets who have proven their worth. Had this kid been made to earn money as opposed to entering the NFL rich, I think that it might have made a difference. These players do not have to work nearly as hard to get paid if they are drafted high and that's a shame.

This comes more down to a problem with an organization making bad personnel decisions than a problem with the rookie cap. I don't think being the #1 pick stops Matthew Stafford from working hard, anymore than it stopped Troy Aikman or Peyton Manning.

Jamarcus Russell showed up chubby at 265 lbs. for the Combine and he was a slow developer in college. All the warning signs were there for the Raiders, and they ignored them because they were enamored with his physical skillset (as they always do). I don't think Russell would have been a very hard worker no matter where he was drafted. Either you love what you do and you take pride in your craft or you don't.

This is what I don't get.

The warning signs were everywhere. Many people could see the risk involved here.

It's amazing to me that NFL teams (the Raiders more than others), continue to make stupid mistakes like this. If the guy is lazy in college, what makes anyone think he's going to turn it on and change after he gets his money.

I doubt he even has the feet to move at tackle. The only place you could get value from him is @ waterboy or send him to Japan and make money off of him as a sumo wrestler
