WR James Jones unlikely to return to Packers

6/22/2011 10:36:03 AM

ESPN Milwaukee's Jason Wilde believes that wide receiver James Jones may be the Packer who will most benefit if free agent rules revert to those of 2009.

Had he been a restricted free agent, the 2007 third-round pick might have returned, with the team having the right to match any offer after tendering him. Instead, if he’s unrestricted, the guess here is a receiver-poor team will pay him starter’s money despite his propensity for ill-timed drops that landed him in the Packers' doghouse last season. ,That would price him out of Green Bay. With Jordy Nelson’s late-season emergence and impending free agency after the 2011 season, along with the selection of receiver/returner Randall Cobb in the second round of the April draft, the only way Jones comes back is if the market just isn’t there for him.

I think he'd be a good fit it we got rid of Roy. He knows Robinson's system. But would he accept being 3rd WR yet again or does he want a top 2 job?

I think he will get offered a pretty decent contract with a wr poor team. I don't see him coming here.

Jones is a player and best suited for a #2 or 3 role, but the article hit it on the head, some receiver needy team is going to pay relatively big money to make him a starter.

If we didn't have Roy here already manning the #3 slot, Jones would be a great fit in Dallas.

Will his hands get magically better when he is a starter as opposed to a #3 WR?

I doubt it.

His hands aren't as bad as folks make them out to be. He had a relatively poor season catching the ball last season. It happens; Miles Austin led the NFC in drops last season.

Rams or skins

If he's smart, the Rams. They have a QB and he is only going to get better. If he's smart but I guess we'll see what happens.

too "boom or bust" for my liking

I think he would be a good fit there also with Bradford at QB, that would be a good combination but he would need to cure his butterfingeritis because he drops too many passes.

The Eagles playoff game and the Super Bowl game rings a bell to me when he had sure TDs that hit him right in the hands in stride and he dropped them he has to get better at catching the ball.

No thanks. Don't like WRs with big game dropsies.

That would be a good place for him to sign. Though, they did draft a WR in rounds 3 & 4 this past draft (Austin Pettis & Greg Salas).

I could actually see a team like the Jets or Patriots making a play at him.

Jones is way too young and not nearly overhyped enough to pique Snyder's interest.

:lmao:

So true. If he was a 37-year old receiver who had just been cut from a Super Bowl team, Snyder would be tempted to sign him to the league's first billion dollar contract.

The Rams have the great Danny Amendola, so they don't need anyone else.
