James Washington vid

He's someone I'd consider in the 3rd, maybe 2nd.

Dude is a deep ball machine and a finisher.

Love the tribute he does to Barry Sanders at the end of those.

  • James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State
    Height: 5-10. Weight: 210. Arm: 33.88. Hand: 9.63.
    40 Time: 4.54.
    Projected Round (2018): 3-5.
3/10/18: Washington caught 74 passes for 1,549 yards with 13 touchdowns in 2017. He is a deep-threat receiver with a lot of production from his college spread attack, which takes advantage of a lot of weak defenses.

Some team sources told me they graded Washington as a mid-rounder for the 2018 NFL Draft. Washington is short with a running back's build and is not really twitchy. He is deceptively fast, but that is build-up speed rather than first-step explosiveness. Sources also say that Washington has good hands, but doesn't really make players miss after the catch. One team source said they graded Washington as a late fourth-rounder. Others could have him higher.

7/17/17: Over the past few seasons, Washington has been a big-play threat for the Cowboys. He put 71 receptions for 1,380 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016, including a record-setting game against Pittsburgh (9-296-2) and a domination of Colorado cornerback Chidobe Awuzie in the bowl game (9-171-1). As a sophomore, Washington snagged 53 passes for 1,087 yards with 10 scores. Washington has decent size and can stretch teams vertically with speed.

He is a glider. PLENTY FAST. He is never ran down after the catch. He has what I call functional football speed. No offense to Dez..this kid runs better routes and has better hands. Whats more is the guy is playing the game the way it should be played, hands the ball to the ref..CLASSY.

I think we should draft Rudolph ..heck,why not draft some insurance?

Washington was unguard-able in college. He's fast and so so strong.
As a Tech fan it was brutal playing him.

As to the B12 stuff.. just stop. That's dated nonsense. TCU is a top 10 defensive squad and UT and others were defense first in 2018.
Didn't matter anyways as Washington roasted everyone. He ate up a good Colorado defense in 2016 where he torched Chido for 170+ yards.
Then ate a good VaTech defense up for over 125 this year.

Washingon is by far the most underrated WR.

HE LOOKS LIKE A RB
He is built like one with that strength and agility of a RB.
He actually played tennis as well as winning the 100 and triple jump state titles in HS.

He is as close to the vet Steve Smith you will get. Incredibly able to win at point of reception with strength/balance then when eh catches it, good luck tackling him.

He has a lot of similarities with Dez except he's 3 inches shorter.

He played HS ball about hour north of where I live. I remember watching him in the state championship game. Looking forward to following his pro career.

James Washington WR Oklahoma St

TALENT
ROUND
2

STRENGTHS

James has good size and speed and excellent hands to be an impact receiver at the next level for the team that selects him. He looks to be an excellent teammate and looks like on film to have the work ethic that tells me that James is not done yet improving as a WR. What James brings to the table is the ability to catch the deep ball without breaking stride. Many receivers can not “consistently” catch the deep ball Like James can. James can burn a defense in single coverage. If you get confused in zone coverage, he will fly right by you for a TD. James has been and big play receiver for his team and he has the potential to be an impact player for the team that selects him.

CONCERNS
Right now James is a one trick pony. He is slow off the line and his route running needs a lot of improvement. He has good speed but not elite speed and he seems to lack the quickness in his cuts to compensate for the lack of elite speed. He fights the ball and struggles to adjust to the ball on short routes but in his defense he doesn’t struggle adjusting to the ball and catching contested passes on the deeper routes. James has a second gear when he is being chased but it would not surprise me if he doesn’t time that well because at the combine no one will be chasing him. James is very raw at this point in running routes and has a lot to learn. If he has the work ethic and can take the big hits James has the potential to become more than just an impact receiver, he could turn into a franchise receiver because he has that type of size and talented hands.

BOTTOM LINE
His speed is good but he has to learn how to use his speed, changing gears, getting better separation, selling his routes, using his hands better off the line, and in general playing more physical. He has to learn how to read defenses on the run changing routes in concert with his quarterback. James right now is not up against corners and defensive backs that are physical with him and the physical corners at the next level will shock James at first and he will struggle until he steps up mentally. That being said if James has the work ethic and patience to improve he can become more than just a receiver who can impact on special plays. He has the size and hands to help on special teams returning punts and kicks and he has the skills to be more than a third receiver. James has the size and skills to become a franchise receiver if he wants it bad enough. James is a specialty receiver with potential to impact on special teams and with the potential to work himself into the starting line up as a number 2 receiver. Anything else that James accomplishes beyond that potential will be all on him and credit will go to him and to him alone.

Have followed him closely his entire collegiate career, really love the player. He just runs away from people and finds himself sneaking past the safeties. Great hands too. I would absolutely love to have him but he is a #2 at best and I wouldn’t use a first round pick on him. If he was there late second or early third I would be very interested though.
