So now that Kosier is in the band, and Duke has been signed, Proctor will be cut?

Good catch. The band knows what's up and has already changed their members due to the impending release of Proctor. We can hope!

...would like a word with you...
When I was 7, Brett Favre made his first NFL start. I'm 24 now, and it never ceases to amaze me that the guy has not missed a single start in the last 17 years.

This isn't a kicker we're talking about here. This is a QB that opposing defenses plan to maul each and every Sunday.

So I'd love to hear about how Roger Staubach was tougher than Favre. Roger was before my time, obviously. But I know that he's missed games and Favre hasn't.

There's a difference between being durable and being tough. Favre is durable, Staubach was tough. Durability has to do with not suffering major injuries. Toughness has to do with playing through injuries.

I can name a number of other QBs that I would consider tougher than Favre:

John Unitas, Y.A. Tittle, Bert Jones, Roman Gabriel, and Billy Kilmer come to mind. Those guys all played with major injuries (broken ribs, neck, back, wrecked elbow, shoulder, etc.). I would also add Archie Manning to that list, he used to get killed every week.

Not to say that Favre isn't tough but he is not the toughest QB I've ever seen play, that's for sure. Peyton Manning is another guy that is durable and hasn't missed a game in his 11 years in the league. Favre has had some minor injuries but nothing like what those other guys played through.

Also, Favre has a linebacker mentality and likes to hit people but he hasn't really taken a lot of big hits in his career. Staubach used to get crushed and would get back up. Jack Lambert said one that Roger Staubach was the only opposing QB he ever had respect for because no matter how hard you hit him he never complained and would just come back the next play. By his own count Roger said he had suffered 16-20 concussions in his career.

Including playoffs, Favre has started 291 straight games. That has to count for a little more than just "durability." Granted, it takes a certain degree of luck to not suffer any injuries that couldn't possibly be played through, but he's played through his share of injuries serious enough to keep most QBs out.

I know he played most of the 2003 with a broken right thumb. Yes, the thumb on his throwing hand.

Then there's the torn biceps tendon he's played with recently.

While in college, he was in a near-fatal car crash that gave him a cracked vertebrae, concussion, and needed 30 inches of his small intestine to be removed.

During his first year as the Packers' starter, he played through a separated shoulder without missing any time. The same injury Emmitt Smith suffered in his now-famous game @ the Giants to close out the 1993 regular season.

In 1995, he suffered a badly sprained ankle that reportedly caused his ankle to swell 6X its normal size. Didn't miss a game.

In 2000, he suffered a mid-foot sprain that was supposed to keep him out several weeks. Didn't miss a game.

He's had concussions, hip pointers, a pinched nerve (suffered @ Dallas in 2007), and various other ailments that couldn't keep him from suiting up week in and week out.

So I'm going to have to disagree about your tough vs. durable point. Favre is as tough a QB as there has ever been.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is an area where it is completely subjective.

I would just add that I am a lot older and have seen first hand the guys I mentioned who played in an era when QBs were fair game and defenders did their best to take them out on every play. Favre has played in an era where the QB is much more protected. He's never taken the HUGE hits that those guys did on a regular basis.

I guess I'm just a typical old guy who thinks that is was so much better "back in the day". :fogeys: :geezer:

Seriously? Columbo is tough. But my knock on him is that he doesn't always show the sort of fire that he should. He isn't an elite bad *** like Ray Lewis

I hear you on the different eras. I can't stand all the rules nowadays meant to protect the QB.

But that's not Favre's fault... all Favre is able to do is play in his era and suit up every single week, no matter what his ailments are, and he's done just that.

He plays no matter what. Maybe I'm being closed-minded, but I just don't see how you can get "tougher" than that.

Based on what I've seen from Favre, I see no reason to believe he couldn't have played and showed similar grit/toughness in previous eras when the QB wasn't as protected.

As for being a "typical old guy", trust me, I'll be one of those if/when I get to your age. At 24, I've managed to already be waaaaay out of touch with the "young generation", and every chance I get I let them know how much better things were in the '90s. :D

Hey Jamie, not Kosier, Procter.

One question come to my mind:

Does Protcor also grabs his balls that often when he performs on stage ? Or is that only something he's doing when he is playing football ?

Colombo is a tough SOB...Said it for a while now. He is the quite leader of our Oline.

leading a mediocre unit really is nothing to brag about. a leader would be in Proctor's face after he didn't leave his stance. A leader would make Flozell get a Miracle Ear.

That's funny! I remember my grandmother telling me that she hated the music my dad listened to when he was a teenager in the 40s, how it wasn't even real music, just a bunch of noise! That's exactly what my dad always said about the stuff I listened to in the 60s & 70s.

Every generation thinks the succeeding generations just don't get it... and vice-versa. :lmao2:

That never gets old. How sweet it was.

Now, don't false start at home.;)

He got close to hitting Witten. That was a little close.

When i was growing up i remember watching Jim Plunkett and Steve Grogan take some beatings and keep on playing.
