Winborn Available?

Apparently the niners want to trade him and he's already cleared out his locker. the article is above. my question is would we have any interest? he's only 26. anyways just a thought.

i dunno, would bill go for him? he's only what, 5-11? not bill parcells type of line backer... i don't know much about him, except that the niners think of him as one of the fastest players on their team

I dont know anything about it but it sounds like he might be a disciplinary problem. Something BP would certainly avoid. That and Parcells is always looking to get bigger even at the expense of speed.
He cant seem to say to stay healthy either so I say a future in Dallas is very unlikely.

The REAL reason Winborn is on the trade block is quite simple-- the guy gets hurt a LOT... he has in his 5th NFL seasos, and twice has played in 14 of 16 games... and that's the BEST he's done... in the other 2 seasons, he has played in 9 games, and 3 games... thus far in his career, he has played in a total of 43 of a possible 67 games... he's missed over 35 per cent of the games the Niners have played in that time...

Now, when he plays, he's quite fast, and fairly capable in coverage... but you can't count on the guy to play 16 games for you in a season...

I say pass, dont know a lot about the guy, but I know we dont need another Linebacker, We need a FS and a QB. I would label those our biggest problem areas. Doubt he can throw the ball and an oft injured (as I have read) FS aint gunna fit the bill. He just doesn't have anything we really need.

ps. Not a knock on Bledsoe, just a long term need right now is all I am saying. I like Bledsoe and hope he sticks around for another year or two, but we need to find a real QB for the future.

Not sure if its been posted but Mike Francesca from Mike and the Maddog radio show on WFAN in NY said that the Cowboys contacted the 49ers about Jamie Winborn but were told that the Bills were close to acquiring him and were rebuffed. I was kinda suprised by that especially when you consider Winborn is no better then what we have in Posey. Not positive but I think Winborn makes a good chunk too. Not sure why the Cowboys would want another LBer either. I hope its BS.

Found this on a Bills board...... I wouldn't be surprised if we looked for 1 more LB since Singleton and James aren't exactly lighting it up. WIth those guys and Winborn replacing Obogu we could have a VERY deep DL/LB corps.

I don't think we're interested in him. He's a 4-3 'backer, IMO... not a 3-4.

I think he has some talent (mainly speed and athleticism), but I don't think he'd fit on the team... plus like bear, Alexander, and some other's said, he's hurt often.

I just don't see us wanting the guy, particularly at what he'll cost (in trade and on the salary cap).

JMO
