Jameill Showers ended the Cowboys-Rams preseason game completing 8 of 16 for 99 yards and showed some escapability and scramble ability. There where a couple of key drops that would have extended a couples of series and would have improved his completion percentage. Overall, I believe Showers had a decent game as well.

Although it's just the first preseason game, both of the young qbs played better than I expected, and if there progress continues, the boys will be in decent shape at the 2nd and 3rd qb position!

He showed some positives, but when you get to late in a preseason game, with a field full of nobodies running around, it can't tell you that much about regular-season potential for success.
Fair enough. Perhaps in the 3rd preseason game he might get some earlier playing time, but yes it's hard to evaluate when you're playing against 3rd-4th/ ps players

Especially with that awful pass pro he was getting. Green was bad in the second half. What alarmed me was how poorly and downright disinterested Leary looked.

He has a very strong arm. Probably the strongest on the team. He had some serious juice on his balls (giggity)

Other then that, it was difficult to get a good read on him from just the telecast

If that's the case with Leary (it may well be so) then perhaps he needs to realize that other teams are watching film and carefully considering it.

It would behoove him to put his best foot forward and make the best of things. Playing well carries its own rewards -- for both now and later on.

It shouldn't alarm you. Leary doesn't want to be here and is collecting a check.

It should alarm everyone because every time he is on film, he is auditioning for that trade he wants or for his next gig after this year. He should be going all out to prove his worth to all 31 other teams.

I dont get the hate for Leary. He has a degenerative knee condition. He, of any player, has a reason to be desperate to get paid now and not later. Smart for the Cowboys to keep him, smart for him to want out.

I wonder how much he improved from week 10-12 of last year to week one of this preseason.

Cause, I much rather of seen him out there last year than Cassel the way he performed out there on Saturday.

There is more than enough tape for teams to look at. Don't think it will harm him all that much in terms of interest. Just might hurt the Cowboys in terms of getting more from him if they are indeed entertaining a trade.

Whether the fans like it or not, it's more important to Leary that he doesn't get a serious injury than having tape of him going against scrubs . There is enough tape on him when he was the starter.

It's very hard to evaluate him as a potential QB when he's playing with lower 2nd and 3rd string lineman and WR's. If he
gets the same chance Dak did to play with the 1's we might have a better idea if he's got the juice and making progress.
All in all, we don't need any other old QB's coming to backup Romo and taking reps away from these young guys
trying to grow.

I don't know how many times we had to punt because the WR was 1 yrd short of the marker

That was Chris Brown. Nice catches but short of the sticks. When we went on 4th and 1 in the red zone, Showers missed a WIDE open Swaim who had just bailed him out a few plays earlier with a tough catch.

I thought Showers looked decent giving the situation in the game.

Showers did not do anything to hurt himself in the game. Given what he had to work with on both sides of the ball. and against a team in the Rams that WANTED to win.
Showers actually did some good things, and I don't recall anything that one can say was bad.

It's very early but, we seemed to have some nice clay to mold into a QB duo for the Cowboy's future here.
They are young, mobile, & arm strong enough to fit the QB position. It remains to be seen if they have
the mental aptitude and constancy to grow into starting caliber leaders for the team. Hope springs
eternal for these guys and we can just stand back & survey...
