Jane Slater: Cowboys not in mix right now for Kupp

i dont know how many times i have to say it - they do not spend on FA, period.

Everyone gets all bent out of shape every year that they hear this and that, and then we do nothing - they really haven't signed a big name since Carr....let that sink in....Hardy had a lot of incentives and he didnt have much demand in terms of other teams - we just dont play in FA.

They could add one ...........I do not think they will consider a WRs outside the 1st round coz 4th round was spent on Mingo. In other words, I think either go all in at the position and draft an A-1 starter in the first or a late-rounder. Remember in Jerry's mind we have already used out 4th rounder on a WR.

I think we will, but like with the DL and OL signings, it won't be anyone on anybody's list. It will be some young player who has started but hasn't put up great numbers yet, a former first-round pick who is nothing but potential or some veterans who has been hurt or his numbers fell off a cliff last year.

Too much hype around Kupp, which means he'll be too expensive.

Of course not. He's a starter with a big salary.

We need more guys like Ronald Mingo to really compete.

Why?
Because you want them to sign an often injured WR because he is a name.
Kupp is like Beckham Jr. was .. great receivers in the past, but injuries ultimately make them unreliable.

Receivers that rely on speed and quickness fade quickly in performance when they are dealing with injuries.

They look great when they are healthy, but the moment they endure injuries, even minor ones, that affect their legs, knees, ankles or feet they become sub-average receivers.

If nothing changes. 5 wins, the HC gets blown out year 1, and it's full on rebuilding time. They will blame it on the HC, never pointing the finger at themselves for being derelict of duty.
They go out and actually hire a real coach. Everyone gets excited. We start to hear rumblings about him not being happy with the front office. Free agency happens and the same bargain bin shopping.

Nope. I hope for that to change each year, but I don't get mad when it doesn't because I don't expect it to change.

This is the problem.

LOL, that's quite the list. Fowler was the only one who kind of worked out. And he was just a situational pass rusher.

Nolan Carroll was my favorite. They cut him in October of his first season. Well done Jerry, you moron.

Because Kupp is not that same player.
He is a name at this point.
I'm going to have to see him as completely losing his name before considering him here.....names cost money and that's out of the question till he gets down to under 6 mil a year

A first round pick would on a WR would only be a must if we didn’t have CeeDee.
I slightly disagree with you.I mean i dont think we can go wrong regardless of the pick because we literally need anything but we have no one besides CeeDee that gets separation. Our offense gets stymied because we cant run and and no one else gets loose so if MCMillian is sitting there you got to take him unles you can trade down a bit and get another pick. as I see it now CB and WR are the 2 biggest needs followed by RB and DT then LB. I cant believe we are just 2 years removed from the number 1 offense but in the playoffs they are peepee lepew

Kupp is being released but the odds of Jerry and Stephen matching other teams offers doesn't seem high

Of course we’re not. That might actually help us get better. Why would they wanna do that? We like our guys.
LOL, exactly. God forbid if people knew who the hell the player was that they sign in free agency. Never heard of any of them before, just like last year, lol.
Krupp has a recognizable name because he's actually accomplished things in the NFL, so there is no way Jerry wants anything to do with him- he will actually cost real $.

I'm not sure right now that we do. Based on our FA signings, I'd count WR, CB and LB as our top needs at the moment.

At WR, the only starting player we have is Lamb. Turpin can probably be a No.3, but none of them have shown they can be a No. 2, which is a starting position. At corner, the only starter we have is Bland. At LB, Liufau is the only starter, at least until Overshown gets back. We can count Parsons there on some downs (maybe).

At all other positions, we have a starter. We may need to upgrade, like at RB, but there is a starting plan in place.

I hope the needs change before the draft because there are other positions I'd prefer to draft early, but I can't see any others where there is an absolute need.
RB is a bigger need than all three. Dowdle is likely gone and Williams who we just signed is a jag. He’s averaged under 4.0 a carry the past 2 seasons. We desperately need a quality RB. We saw how much Philly improved with a great runner.

then they better be in the mix for WR with first pick then
At 12 or with a trade back sets up good for receiver with McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, Golden, and Burden to chose from. Emeka Egbuka is about as safe a pick as there is. He is solid.

Nope. I hope for that to change each year, but I don't get mad when it doesn't because I don't expect it to change.
Well I'm glad you aren't one that gets mad.

My view is no reason to hope, it's been over a decade since a meaningful fa signing and they aren't changing until Jerry dies.

Better than anything we have currently (after Lamb), and if he's as washed up as people on here claim, he should come on a good deal......but nah!!!! We're good. Lol
