Jane Slater: Cowboys not in mix right now for Kupp

If nothing changes. 5 wins, the HC gets blown out year 1, and it's full on rebuilding time. They will blame it on the HC, never pointing the finger at themselves for being derelict of duty.
Jerry Jones is not firing a head coach and paying him for three years not to coach. They could go 0-17 and Schottenheimer would not get terminated.

I slightly disagree with you.I mean i dont think we can go wrong regardless of the pick because we literally need anything but we have no one besides CeeDee that gets separation. Our offense gets stymied because we cant run and and no one else gets loose so if MCMillian is sitting there you got to take him unles you can trade down a bit and get another pick. as I see it now CB and WR are the 2 biggest needs followed by RB and DT then LB. I cant believe we are just 2 years removed from the number 1 offense but in the playoffs they are peepee lepew
An RB is a bigger need than WR. We have one of the top WRs in the game but we have nothing at RB. We need a big play threat at that position. We can’t put it all on our QB.

I might be alone, but I dont really want him. Too many partial season for my liking. But maybe more importantly, i view him as a guy to go to a team that is darn close to winning it all. We need too many pieces. Id rather try out young unproven guys. Maybe one develops into something by the time we are true contenders.

RB is a bigger need than all three. Dowdle is likely gone and Williams who we just signed is a jag. He’s averaged under 4.0 a carry the past 2 seasons. We desperately need a quality RB. We saw how much Philly improved with a great runner.
I won't argue against that, but there's a good possibility Jeanty will be gone and I'm not sure Hampton is valued at 12. If Jeanty is there, I'm taking him without blinking unless someone like Mason Graham falls. I'd figure out CB and WR over the next two rounds.

We're going to come up short no matter what if we don't address some more needs in free agency. Can't count on those third-rounders being instant starters.

I wont argue its not a big need I just dont think its bigger. The RB class is deep if they have to go round 3 I think they still improve the team. The first 3 picks need to be CB,WR and RB imo. the depth isnt as strong at CB and WR. Like mentioned earlier if Jeanty is there I wont be unhappy I just dont think he will be. Id be ok with Restrepo at WR or Golden or a few others but man what a tandem Lamb and McMillian would be on paper

Kupp is being released but the odds of Jerry and Stephen matching other teams offers doesn't seem high

I would have offered the Rams a seventh for him and then tried to renegotiate his contract. They could work it out to give him most of his $12.5 million base as bonus and add two void years to absorb it. I believe that would lower his cap hit to around $10 million. There were ways to make this work.

I don’t think Kupp is the same player he was at his peak but I have no doubt he could still be a pretty big piece of the offense alongside a true #1 like Lamb. I have no problem overpaying a bit, especially if it’s a short 2-year deal to shore up a position of need which you basically cannot address in the draft except with your first round pick. There are other options out there left in FA but they are drying up. This was an area that could have been addressed and it looks increasingly likely they will not do so. I really don’t get why they bothered to clear cap space if they are not going to use any of it. I can’t say this is surprising, given the last decade or so, but it’s still disappointing.

I wouldn’t take Hampton at 12 but I wouldn’t go past the 2nd round without an RB. We should pick up a quality FA to cover ourselves.

WR is always a possibility with our first or second pick but we do have bigger needs. We traded a 4th for Mingo thinking he could replace Cooks. If we draft a receiver high it just makes that trade look worse.
Come on dude. The Cowboys traded for Mingo because every receiver on the roster except for CeeDee was a disappointment. Bad trade yeah but you guys act like a 4th round pick is gold. It’s nothing. If Mingo played great (impossible because Dak never played with him) we still would be looking for a receiver early.

No Kupp washed

No Amani washed and a pouter

No Diggs because he flat out sucks like his brother.
Kupp is not washed. He’s still a very good receiver but injuries have limited him.

They go out and actually hire a real coach. Everyone gets excited. We start to hear rumblings about him not being happy with the front office. Free agency happens and the same bargain bin shopping.
Bingo.
