Jane Slater: The three names I keep hearing to the Cowboys in round 1

Hmm... Little concerned about the maturity question marks on both Nolen and Pearce, but you can't deny they're good football players. Golden, I'd just much rather have three other WRs, but he's clean--emotionally speaking.

Not sure these names excite me, though I am interested in adding guys that pressure the QB. Why not Donovan Ez then? Sure, he's 2 inches shorter than Pearce, but his arms are actually longer.

You want defensive lineman who are a little crazy. Charles Haley was nuts but he was an excellent football player.

It's true. Ultimately, I know nothing about their maturity levels, and the team does. Also, I really don't care if a 20 year old is a little immature, so long as they're good on the field and not into anything bad or dangerous. Also also, remember that Micah was available partly because he had rumored maturity issues (which soiled him in the eyes of many fans on this board, including myself).

I guess because the draft is so poor at the top, teams are going to be more willing to take chances with some of these guys. It's a weird one this year.

I heard a rumor today that Cowboys trade back to 20 and get Sutton from the Broncos. Just speculation but moving back to 20 to take one of these players makes sense

Heard some talk about Sutton too....would be an ideal replacement for McMillan but will want a new contract at 20+ m per year. Can we afford that with all the hand wringing over Parsons, Smith, Bland, etc?

Excellent point.

Yeah, Micah and Jalen Carter are abusing the league.

I said that group of 3 look like trade back options.

The Cowboys don’t want to pay Sutton and he is approaching 30. A trade for Denver’s second and 3rd round picks along with 20 would make more sense. Denver does not want Sutton and a trade for our 12th pick for Sutton and the 20th pick would be dumb from the Cowboys. Sutton is worth a 5th rounder at the most.

Pearce and Nolen are excellent prospects if you aren't concerned about the character questions. On the field, the guys are disruptive day 1
Pretty much how I feel…

Unfortunately if there are questions / concerns hard to turn that card in at 12.

They aren’t trading for Sutton.

not always. Bob Lilly was not. Manster played sort of crazy but was not.
Lots of DL's played hard and were great without being crazy

I'm not mad at the names, all these dudes can play. Flus is trying to heat up that QB. I much rather have a DE like Pearce with the production + upside over a Mykel Williams. Nolen with Osa on the passing downs is enticing, but that they would have to double dip at DT and get a NT, for sure.
Nolen is a strong run defender, too, so we'd be able to mix and match. Despite the concerns over his character, he was the main reason his team had a stout defensive front.
