Jane: Witten not part of the staff

A source informed tells me the #Cowboys have not completed the process of hiring their defensive coordinator. Matt Eberflus is certainly someone held in high regard and certainly part of the consideration however. Not part of their considerations, according to two sources, Jason Witten on staff. While Jerry Jones has maintained a relationship with him and they have talked in recent months it appears my sense of him being part of the plan are unsubstantiated at this point and haven’t been discussed in fact.

I thought this whole thing centered around Witten coming in.

I think it centered on how much control Jerry was willing to give up, which was none.

However, it could have just been about money. I guess we'll see when the head coach salaries are made available. If Moore takes a head coaching job this offseason and gets more than No-Schott, that'll tell us all we need to know.

I think, though, that any coach can see what the front office's inactivity did to McCarthy this past year, so I doubt they wanted to come here without some assurances that the Joneses would not give them.
