The key word is

YET

I think we would be shocked if JW was not here in some capacity...QC assist or something.
And honestly, that would not bother me at all. Too much is being made of the Witten thing. If he were given an "entry level" position, it would be no different than other players who have. Leon Lett was an assistant defensive line coach for us. Marc Colombo started off as an assistant offensive line coach for us. Etc.

The biggest difference here is that Witten has been crowned by media as the head coach in waiting and the reason for what we've done at head coach. I'm not sure that's fair to him.

Yep, have we announced TE coach yet? Then again Jerry'll think he outwitted everyone by not appointing Witten...."ah-ah I fooled them, now can you get Jason on the line, he's sitting with me this whole season'.

Now that shocks me.

And really makes Kellen Moore not getting hired really confusing.
I'll be shocked if Witten isn't foisted on us as well. But Moore makes perfect sense if you believe he only interviewed as a courtesy to Jerry and never intended to come here. He'd be insane to come back he escaped once.

A source informed tells me the #Cowboys have not completed the process of hiring their defensive coordinator. Matt Eberflus is certainly someone held in high regard and certainly part of the consideration however. Not part of their considerations, according to two sources, Jason Witten on staff. While Jerry Jones has maintained a relationship with him and they have talked in recent months it appears my sense of him being part of the plan are unsubstantiated at this point and haven’t been discussed in fact.

This is premature Jane.....why announce Witten as part of the staff with the same HC announcement? Bad optic ........wait and let your new HC announce his role.

I hope this doesn't cause Brian Shottenheimer to back out of taking the job!

Zero respect for someone who appears to be so desperate for a HC gig that he would agree to be another one of Jerry's yes-man puppets.

"We don’t know Brian Schottenheimer will be a failure any more than we know Ben Johnson will be a success. Coaching hires are weird & hard to predict. Few people thought highly of Dan Campbell in 2021 etc etc etc.

We do know that it REEKS of bad process to fart around for eight days with a head coach who needs a new contract, fail to retain him after missing an interview window for coveted candidates, bring in two former head coaches who are not in high demand, one outside assistant you already have a relationship with and *then* choose the guy down the hall who a) is not drawing interest elsewhere b) has not been a head coach c) has not called plays for you and d) has had mixed results when he has called an offense in the past.

It’s not to say Schottenheimer can’t be a success, or that he’s not a good dude. Just that the process of getting to him feels neither thorough nor inventive, which doesn’t (and shouldn’t) inspire confidence. Especially since the people running this process would have you believe this is a desirable job."

Darn, that's too bad. Maybe now they'll hire an actual NFL coach for the important job they were going to hand to Witten? Or maybe they'll hire Schotty's kid or nephew or something

Schottenheimer will probably call the plays so we are looking for a weak OC. I hope they bring someone in young and innovative.
Some scapegoat to run SHOTTIES offense, that's how it works here pal!!! Why bring in another offensive guy when you have one, they'll promote the RB's coach to be our OC
