High-school pitcher with 99mph fastball rejects Japanese league and attracts interest from eight MLB teams
A Japanese high-school pitching sensation, Shohei Otani, has triggered a bidding war among Major League Baseball clubs after deciding to play in the US. The 18-year-old, who has a 160kph (99mph) fastball, is set to become the first potential top pick in the Japanese draft to make the jump directly from high school to MLB.
