Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is at Princeton University this weekend for his annual football camp.

Garrett a 1989 graduate of the Ivy League university recently received the Citizen-Athlete Award from the school’s Varsity Club.

On May 28, Garrett delivered a nearly 23-minute acceptance speech that touched on his time at Princeton, sports, leadership and life.

If you only see Garrett in front of the camera before practice or after games, you’re usually not getting the head coach his players see behind the scenes. The speech in the video below reveals a little more of his personality.

Garrett got emotional and cracked jokes as he gave advice on being the right kind of person.

“If you’re in a leadership role, lead,” Garrett said. “Embrace the mantle of leadership. My job with the Dallas Cowboys is to lead. I’m in charge of the message. I’m in charge of when we’re practicing. I’m the guy that everyone is looking to for direction. Lead. Line One.

“There’s a lot of ways to lead. You can lead from above, you can lead from within, you can lead from below. But if you’re in a leadership role, lead.”
