This is a question. I don't really know the answer because I don't know what he is doing or adjusting on the sidelines. From what I see on television (which is not authoritative by any means) it doesn't look like he is very active of energetic with the players. Most of the time it looks like Tony Romo is off sitting by himself, and I never see Garrett addressing the other members of the offense, its usually the position coaches talking with their players.
At least up in the booth Garrett can see the entire field and what's working and what's not. Up in the booth is like watching game film as it happens instead of waiting until after the game to see what the problems were.
I am sure he has his reasons for being on the sidelines instead of up in the booth, but it would be interesting for him to try calling a game from the booth to see if it improves what he is seeing and thus the play calling and exploitation of the defenses.
