Jason Garrett gives the impression that he rarely, if ever, uses his team's place in the standings as motivation. Asked earlier this week if he's spoken to the players about the unlikely, competitive position the Cowboys find themselves in at 4-8, the head coach said the standings are not something he dwells on.
So, Garrett hasn't told his team they are in the same position they were at this stage last season _ one game out of the NFC East lead with four to play?
"We didn't even think about it until coach Garrett brought it up,'' tight end Jason Witten said of Garrett's speech to the team earlier this week. "That's important. It allows you to kind of look at it with a perspective of we were in this situation before.
"Now, maybe we would have been in as a Wild Card or something like that last year. But four games to go, one game back.
"Everything you're playing for is right in front of you.''

Interesting perspective at least, technically true but we are competing with 3 teams instead of one for that spot.
