Jason Hanson retires after 21 seasons as Lions' kicker

Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson announced his retirement Thursday, DetroitLions.com's Tim Twentyman reported. Hanson played 21 seasons in Detroit and was the most organization's most consistent player since Barry Sanders.

The two-time Pro Bowler finished No. 3 in NFL history in scoring with 2,150 points. There hadn't been any decline in his game as Hanson finished 2012 with an 88.9 field goal percentage. He ranks No. 3 in league history with 495 field goals and 327 games played with the Lions are the most by any player with one team. If I remember reading right in an article last season, he is the last Super Techmo Bowl 2 player that was still playing. That's it now. They are all done. Now i feel really old. :cry:

I posted about this guy a while back because I think the Jets offered him a tryout. Looks like the Lions signed him.

I want to see how he does in the preseason.

Probably won't make the team because Detroit supposedly signed Akers but I'll be pulling for the guy. Seems like the dude off The Replacements. Just some average guy with a hell of a leg.
