Free agent DL Jason Hatcher is retiring from the NFL after 10 seasons.

Hatcher turns 34 in July and hinted he may hang the cleats up following the Commanders' Wild Card loss to the Packers in January. The former 2006 third-round pick out of small school Grambling State was a late bloomer and didn't become a starter until 2011. From 2006-2010, Hatcher started one game and recorded 7.5 total sacks for Dallas. The next five years, Hatcher was a full-time player and one of the better interior pass rushers in football, recording 27 sacks across five seasons with Dallas (three) and Washington (two). The Commanders were interested in bringing back Hatcher, and the Saints were also in on him before signing Nick Fairley.

Jason Hatcher (Cowboys/Commanders) is retiring from the NFL. A great player and better friend. His leadership will be missed by teammates.

Move this if need be but he was a good player for us for 8 years and a lot of us were not happy we let him walk two years ago. I figured it was worthy of a post.

Like Parcells said, if you are thinking about retirement you are already there.

Since he left the Cowboys for money and went into the enemy Commanders camp, we should forgo the
obligatory 1-day contract for him to retire a Cowboy even if he wants to. He burned all his bridges
back into Dallas.

His second contract was an extremely team friendly deal and supposedly, we didn't even offer him anything the year he left and signed with the Skins. I can't blame a 31 year old player who played his career at a discount for trying to get paid on what is likely the last contract they will sign.

and considering it actually was his last contract, i don't see how you can be mad at the guy. He played hard when he was here, he should retire a cowboy

If you take the money to go to the enemy you don't get to come back. Ware can come back because he went to Denver.
He also had some negative comments about Dallas when he left. No coming back Hatch...

Solid player. Didn't he predict that Ben Bass and Tyrone Crawford were going to be Hall of Famers though

Since he left for money we should begrudge him? Some of you fans STILL don't get it. But keep watching, you eventually will!

I don't remember that. I think he said they were going to be the reason he left Dallas, though. That might have gotten intentionally twisted along the way.

Doesn't matter, though. He went to the Commanders, so he's dead to me.

What did he say?

Ware also made a boat load of money with us, he didn't have to sign somewhere for enough money to comfortably retire on. Hatcher received less than 10 million for 8 years of service with us. It may seem like a lot of money but hardly enough to retire on. Lastly, as I said...Dallas didn't even offer him a contract.

I agree with you on someone like Murray who left Dallas with a deal on the table to sign with a rival for more money. We didn't even want Hatcher after his pro bowl season which turned out to be a good thing for us since we don't have to eat any dead money right now.

NFL.com said he received interest from multiple teams, including within the division.

I wonder if we reached out to him?

Murray, Hatcher, Ratliff are all guys that left to go to the enemy or had bad things to say about the
Cowboys... They should not be allowed to retire Cowboys...

Never heard of any of those guys. Were they good when they were here?
