Witten passed Jay Novacek for most receptions by a Dallas tight end yesterday. Novacek had 339 receptions. Witten now has 340. Novacek played in 6 seasons and 95 games for Dallas while this was Witten's 77th game in his 5th season.

Witten also set new season highs for a Dallas tight end. He had 87 receptions and 980 yards in 2004. This year he has 88 receptions and 1068 yards.

Now he has to catch Billy Joe Dupree for most TD receptions by a Dallas tight end. BJD had 9 in 1978 and 41 for his career over 11 seasons and 159 games. Witten currently has 21 TDs for his career. That equals Novacek's 21 as a Cowboy. Doug Cosbie had 30 TDs.

A good, positive post, something we need amongst all these sky is falling threads. ;)

Witten's last two games have been simply amazing, 23 catches for 251 yards and one TD.

He leads all NFL TEs in catches and yards and is NFC leader in receptions.

Irvin was a stud, how any mediots could've ever argued that he's not a HoF player are just that. With Witten we may end up with the greatest TE in NFL history his stats are just insane, I hope the Cowboys can put a SB ring on his finger.

He's no Eli Manning or Hot-Golfer-chick-person.

The league record for yards by a tight end is 1,290.

Witten needs to average 7 catches for 112 yards over the next two games and he will own the all-time league records for a tight end in both catches and yards.

Gonzalez has the current receptions record and Winslow the yardage record.

Witten is absolutely incredible, and the great thing is that he came into the league as the, then, youngest player, so hopefully, we have many, many more years of him tearing up opposing secondaries.

Think he was good value in the Third Round?

Man, would I ever like to see him get both of those records.

Thanks.

Two more 100-yard games would also tie the record for most in a season (and most consecutive) by a TE. So the odds are against him.

That yardage record has stood for 27 years.
