Witten at least held teammates accountable and led by example. We're getting less results from current TEs without the leadership.

Witten like many if us saw the cluster this season would be and got out.

Pretty sure Witten saw the writing on the wall with this terrible offense and team. Why stick it out for another under .500 team when you have a great opportunity in the broadcast booth.

Man, he really screwed us. I think we were preparing for the loss of Bryant, not both. The timing is the worst part. Retire after FA, during the draft, which is why we ended up with Shultz. Smh
Ever thought that Witten retired because the FO failed to get a #1 receiver in free agency, then cut Dez anyway. Indicating they weren't serious about winning this year. So there was no way he was going to put his body and health on the line for what his experience tells him was going to be another failed season?

When players hold other players accountable, because the coaching staff is useless; its time to stop and think about it .

I loved the core of romo, witten, bryant, murray, the oline , ware and Lee, but make no mistake in terms of overall sucess they did absolutely nothing for this franchise.

I'm sorry but neither Dak nor Zeke were ready to be team leader faces of the franchise. Zeke because he is an idiot and Dak needed time behind Romo.

But Jerrah saw a marketing opportunity and Garrett is always is save my job mode so we got this premature anointing

I agree with a lot of this, but all the time in the world can’t make Dak into a legit starter. He is what he is..

People here were commenting on how Witten was too old, too slow & would run routes short of 1st downs & couldn't wait to be rid of him & NOW he somehow "Screwed us" by retiring?

I don't blame Witten. I wouldn't put my body on the line for a losing franchise that refuse to take the steps to win.
one of the biggest steps is firing garrett. witten was one of his biggest backers.

Yeah, because his 8 receptions for 38 yards would be putting them over the top in these games.

Well he didn't personally do anything wrong.

This team wasn't prepared.

We need to pull MARTYBTV (who remembers his tv channel / live stream of him and his brother ordering Chinese food) out of retirement?

heck yeah, I blame Witten too. Now Dak has nobody to throw his 5 yard bombs too... I hope they fire him and repossess his wig.

sort of. I believe the cowboys planned on witten being on the team. If witten was going to retire it would of been nice for him to do it after last season. Cowboys didn't plan to take a TE but with witten retiring during the draft we felt pressured into taking schultz after the eagles jumped up and grabbed Dallas. It was after FA so really no TE's where worth picking up then. Now we may have the worst starting TE in the NFL. Schultz is not ready and really hasn't shown any real potential. Blake jarwin and swaim are jags.
