Javonte Williams contract details

So doing the math (if I did it right) cap hits are:

2026 - $3.95MM ($1.75MM base + $1.2MM prorated bonus + $1MM roster bonus)
2027 - $8.45MM ($6.25MM base + $1.2MM prorated bonus + $1MM roster bonus)
2028 - $9.20MM ($7MM base + $1.2MM prorated bonus + $1MM roster bonus)
2029 - $1.2MM (prorated bonus)
2030 - $1.2MM (prorated bonus)

But those dummy years in 2029 and 2030 accelerate onto the cap at the end for a total of $2.4MM.

So let's say they cut him after two years, the dead money would be $3.6MM (the three prorated bonus entries for 2028, 2029 and 2030) as the roster bonus and salary for 2028 are not guaranteed.

All in all it's not a terrible deal assuming he performs in 26 and 27.

I have a tough time disliking the structure.

If nothing else it’s better than tempting Jerry to take Love at 12. Nothing against Love but we ain’t there by a longshot.

That is a very good deal. I feel better about next season as free agency approaches. Neppo took a little steam out of my hopes when he didn’t simply answer “yes” about jj’s “breaking the bank” quote.

We’ll see.

Surprisingly good structure.

Interesting to see how people who hated the money are going to find fault with this.
My issues are more with the fact I don't believe we needed to make his signing a priority and the fact I think he's due for a regression, despite being 25. Plus, he's nothing special as a TB and I think we need more "juice" from the position. So at this point, hopefully Blue can figure out whatever he needs to figure out to pair with Williams.

If Blue becomes anything Williams’ power and Blue’s speed could be a nice combination. Fairly reasonable combined contract for your top 2 backs.

I'll say this, I like Javonte. Good chap. Runs well, good vision, good hands and blocks for Dak.

When Steele misses his block. ;)..

This is a bargain compared to a lot of starters elsewhere. I'd say Javonte wanted to do a team-friendly deal and stay here.

So that 3rd year is 100% fake. Good to see. I just don't like making long term commitments to RBs.

In that case, it's a win-win. Javonte gets his bag (after that bag looked seriously in jeopardy), and stays on a good offense with a very good run-blocking OL. Dallas keeps a 1,000 yard RB for not much more than the cost of going Miles Sanders / Ronald Jones fishing every offseason.

Disagree with this take.

So if we signed him four weeks from today it would make it better?

J. Williams is a very good, physical back, that’s good in pass protection and short yardage situations.
