As horrible a coach Fran was at A&M, he got one thing right.....he totally utilized Lane to his strengths....

I have no idea what Sherman was doing? Was Lane hurting all season? Was he fat and out of shape? I have no clue why Sherman shut down Javorskie, especially after he had such a solid Jr season.

All I know is, if Lane is hanging around in the 6th or 7th rounds, I would be pleased of Dallas took him. If there is one thing you cannot have too many of, it is short yardage and redzone weapons. With his size he could be a bruising RB or an excellent lead blocker. He could also catch passes out of the backfield.

The question is, do we keep 5 RBs instead of 4? Would we keep him and Cricket or would he replace Cricket? If we kept 5 RBs, would we only keep 2 TEs or only 5 WRs?

I just like the idea of Barber and Choice wearing down defenses for 3 quarters, Jones being used as our home run hitter, and then bringing in Lane to get tough yards in the 4th quarter against tired defenses.

hmmm he might be some body to watch an interesting full back prospect to say the least. He may need to cut some pounds however he's definitely a versatile full back.

I don't know how many full backs have a high light reel.

i'm telling you, if he lasts till the late rounds, he is going to be a steal for anyone who gets him. I just hope it isnt anyone in the NFC East, except Dallas. I would definitely hate to see the Giants get him.

Oh, IDK man he might be to big. If he can get down to 260 then he'll definitely be a steal.

I don't follow A&M so I might be confusing the player from another team.

But there was some big old running back some years back that everybody thought would be great coming out...great in the role that is being mentioned for this guy..short yardage power back or FB.

Tombs or something like that.

Don't know if he ever made it in the NFL or who drafted him, or if he was even drafted. Like I said I don't really follow A&M but I think that guy was similar to what you describe with this guy.

Sorry if I am mistaken.

He didn't play fullback that much while at A&M. He mostly played tailback or in the one back formation. He has quite a bit to learn about lead blocking as a fullback. I think he runs the ball well and catches it okay.

You have to wonder about his attitude. The new coaches at A&M really did not want to use him that much this past season. He had only 35 attempts. The previous two seasons he averaged 167.5 rushing attempts. Either the coaching staff was really dead set at him being a fullback who did not get the ball that often or just did not like him. Or maybe they didn't think he was that good and they could get more production from other guys. Whatever the reason it does not help Lane's stock in the NFL. I thought he was at best a late rounder coming into the season and now see him as an undrafted free agent.

Dallas won't keep more than 3 running backs and 1 fullback on the roster. If they find a fullback that they really like then I can see them replacing Anderson, but no one is replacing Barber, Jones and Choice unless there is an injury.

The previous A&M back BP is thinking of is Jamar Tombs. He went undrafted, I believe. He had a big game and tremendous run against Oklahoma on national television during OU's national championship run of 2000. He also had to make the switch to fullback due to his size and did not make it in the NFL.

Sherman hardly ever played him this past year. IIRC he ran the ball only 35 or so times.

Reminds me of Brandon Jacobs.

Only if he's wearing a rubber Brandon Jacobs mask. Japorky will be as successful in the NFL as Jared Lorenzen.

On Lane, I can tell you alittle bit about him, since i am from lufkin. Lane is a cross between a fullback and halfback. At Lufkin Lane was a halfback with power, once he broke through tackles he was on his way to long runs. He was said to run the 40 in about 4.5 when he left lufkin, maybe a tad faster, but lane was 5-11, about 228 or so even then at high school. At A & M he ballooned to about 265. Some of my friends said the last 2 years, he has gotten fat and lazy. I myself dont know really, but some of my friends that have friends that go to A & M college say that he did get fat and lazy, but he has unlimmited potential if he puts his mind to it.

Thats the key with Lane, when he wants to play he is unstoppable, but only when he wants to play and stay in shape.

Lane was suppose to go high in the draft is junior year, but because he got out of shape and lazy, and balloned up to about 265 to 285 or so, he most likely will get drafted late in draft or become a free agent. He does have the size and power to block if he wants to but thats the key, what is he thinking and wanting.

I like his attitude, I like backs who run angry. If he's there in the 6th, I'd take him as long as he's willing to learn fullback and play special teams, otherwise he'll never be active. He's got quick feet for a guy his size but he'd be a real weapon on the goal line. Quick feet on a fullback his size could also be an asset, and he seems to know how to get low and use his bulk.

I've seen him pout on the sidelines though when he didn't think he was getting enough work, and he wouldn't get plenty here as far as getting a handoff.

Texas A&M has produced a long line of NFL runningback flops:

Leeland McElroy, Sirr Parker, Toombs, and in all likelihood Lane will be added to that list of eh.

a better short-yardage option would be Georgia's FB, Brannan Southerland

has 22 or 24 career TDs, tremendous blocker too
