this is a fs i would not mind having on this football team.

i'm not so sure justin will not be our fs come training camp.....but if we can get appel in the later rounds of this draft...i would consider him stolen.

Jaxson Appel is probably the best run support safety in the history of D-1 football, but as an Aggie fan, I still cringe at the thought of him in coverage.

:lmao2:

But Seriously......

:lmao2:

I will grant you that he was pretty good in run-support but the best in the 136 year history of D-I Football? Quite possibly the biggest homer statement in the history of this Board and that's saying something.

Well at least you got something right.

Okay, name someone better?

He led the NCAA in tackles by a DB 2 of his 4 years at A&M, and is 1st or 2nd (cant remember) all-time in tackles for a DB.

Acting as a landing cushion for running backs doesn't make Appel a great run defender.

The only things those stats show is how terrible the A&M Front 7 was while he was there. When a DB has to make that many tackles it's because everybody in front of him sucks and the RB gets to him before any other defender even lays a finger on him. He's a good run-stopper but he's nothing special.

Oh and, just off the top of my head, Roy Williams was far better at run support from the Safety position at Oklahoma than Appel could ever even hope to be.

That may be the case, however that still doesnt prove anything about Appel's non ability to play the run. The man could tackle RBs, its what he was good at.

You cant argue with the numbers

First off, anybody can argue with numbers because they almost never to tell the complete story especially in this case.

......and I never said that Appel couldn't stop the run. Go back to my first post where I conceded that he could do so and was "pretty good" at it. The part that literally made me laugh out loud though was where you made the statement of "best run support safety in the history of D-1 football."

Better than Ronnie Lott at USC? Roy Williams at OU? George Teague at Alabama? Steve Atwater at Arkansas?

He certainly was not a better player than those guys, but he was a better run support safety. I mean literally, the guy never missed tackles.

No he wasn't.

That's funny because I remember sitting in Kyle Field in 2003 and watching Cedric Benson run over him on two different occasions that day. I'm sure I, and everybody else sitting in that Stadium, were just seeing things though.

Benson ran over him ONCE and Jaxson still tripped him up for the tackle

Classic aggie logic...how is 2006 looking? About the same as the past 4 years, which had you beating Texas and winning the Big 12?

Cedric Benson ran over him and VY ran around him. He did make tackles on VY, but he also missed as many as he made.

Wrong, I wasn't even counting that play because that was one of the few times that day when Cedric was tackled and didn't end up in the endzone. There were two other occasions when Cedric ran over him though and all Jaxson could do was flip over and hope that somebody else got him.

Oh but he never missed a tackle.

Although I don't doubt that he is as good in run support as you guys say, I would SERIOUSLY reconsider. We already have good run supporters. We need COVERAGE safeties.

Michael Huff and Ko Simpson are the best there, then followed by Jimmy Williams and James Allen, who I think will be available in the 3rd round.
