Jay Ajayi's knee problem overblown or fabricated?

"On Monday, CBS Sports reported that concerns emerged regarding the knee of Boise State running back Jay Ajayi at the Scouting Combine medical re-check in Indianapolis. The only problem? Ajayi wasn’t there.

Agent Erik Burkhardt said on Twitter than Ajayi didn’t attend, and wasn’t asked to attend, the medical re-check. Which implies strongly that there were no concerns about Ajayi’s knee at the original Scouting Combine in February."

I gotta say, I loved this kid and he was my number one choice if we could not get Gurley or Gordon. When the news came out about his knee, I was really sad to see the kid get his hopes for the draft dashed. If this is true, and I am sure the Cowboys are checking it thoroughly, I would love to see Ajayi here.

FWIW, Broaddus claims that his condition is degenerative (and isn't repairable) and that he wouldn't consider him before the 4th round. It's a gamble as to how long his knee will last.

Maybe so. Maybe the Cowboys are playing games, hoping Ajayi falls so they can get him a better value?

"If those reports originate from team visits, keep in mind that very few teams engage in extensive medical examinations during those sessions. Besides, Ajayi checked out at the Scouting Combine, where the poking and prodding nearly rises to the level of the nuances of an alien abduction. (I think I’ve used that one before. I’m too lazy to check.)

So why are reports emerging of concerns with Ajayi’s knee? Because one or more teams love Ajayi enough to trash him privately, in the hopes he’ll be available when they hope to land him in the draft."

Narrow thinking. Backs do not last more than five years on average. If you feel he is better right now than the other choices, I would still take him knowing that you have a quality back for as long as he lasts, use him up and get another one.

No reason to take an inferior player thinking about them possibly having an 8-10 year player at that position. It is not the same for other positions.

To me it is lying to push him down.

All of these teams know the same things and if these concerns are out there, you would a lot less interest in him. This is not something that would have just gone unnoticed at the Combine.

I agree. It makes no sense for any team to leak information that a player is damaged goods if they truly believe it. If they truly believe it, they keep quiet and hope a team above them takes the guy and a player they want slips to them.

OP is stuck on the whole medical re-Check.....it was then late reported that it wasn't the medical re-check that drew the red flags...it was on the official visits

It's not a matter of whether there is a problem here..there is..

As the link states, if it was on the official visits it does not make a lot of sense. The medical re-check is pretty extensive but the official visits are just cursory medical examinations. They do not go in depth like a true medical check. Why would they not see it during an extensive check but suddenly find it during a cursory examination?

Oh, well. Whatever the case may be, I am sure the Cowboys have all the info they need to make a decision.
