Jaydon Blue aims to take Receiving Game to Next Level

Jaydon Blue is being confident in himself and his abilities. He knows what he can accomplish playing with the Cowboys. I actually like his self confidence and trust in his abilities. He is setting some hefty goals to the media to push himself. That's a good thing.
Well I hope he succeeds. We need all the help we can get.

They might keep 1 less WR than normal because Blue likely get snaps at slot WR as well as RB.

Blue might keep your boy Cropper off the roster...
You may be right.

I just want them to judge Cropper on his merits as a receiver,. rather than a kick returner. He'd be a nice 3 with Lamb and Pickens. He's like 180... but fast so you could split the safeties and also use him and Blue, which I think would also be a nice set up.

From what I can tell, they just don't like his size. To me, I see a hybrid between Josh Downs and Cedric Wilson. He's just not a big, strong receiver, but I did see him use speed to truck a safety down field.

I don't think Cropper makes the roster because of his size. But that doesn't mean I think he shouldn't.

If I were emporer, I'd have him pencilled at 5, but competing for 4 and 3.

If I were emporer.

By the way, this post made me think about this scenario and I had to think twice about it. After pondering it, that also makes Blue more valuable to the team for being able to man two roster spots with one roster spot, which makes room for things like DT depth or whatever.

I like Cropper then probably Brooks. Flournoy has been a stiff so far.

He should be. I would say he's more like Achane than Gibbs, though. But I understand why everyone says Gibbs.

Blue has equal big play ability like these two. He just needs to beef up for some tough runs. He's smaller, but he's not 5'5'' or anything. Just needs a few more pounds. He could gain it in his legs if he did it right.
Totally agree. It would help Jaydon Blue to add about 10-12 pounds more of muscle proportionally across his body to help him withstand harder contact in the NFL.

Maybe about.7 lbs, not over 10.

I can see a scenario where Blue may get more receiver reps early on. He could be a dynamic slot player when Cee Dee isn't playing slot.

It's great to have goals and huge bravado but he has not played a lick of professional football. Right now he is just mighty mouth. I am glad we have Jaydon Blue though.

I know. What I really love is how Pickens and Lamb help keep the safeties honest, which opens things up for JB.

He's gonna play some receiver, though, and I think that's where he surprises a lot of people. Way better at that than Pollard. Blue actually could just play receiver.
He runs actual routes and has moves to get seperation. In the videos I saw he looked like a WR runnjng routes. Very impressive route running

It could happen though. Not saying it will, but I wouldn't be all that surprised.

He can line up in the slot too.
How does a guy with all this potential not get drafted before the fifth round? And what does he have that other running backs selected in the 4th and fifth rounds don’t also have?

I would say he has traits like Achane and Gibbs. Given that he wasn't overly utilized, he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear. But also lacks experience, and had a fumbling problem.

Things like size and pass protection and fumbling hurt his draft stock. But those things weren't for lack of talent

Blue is just a bit raw. With some refinement, he could end up being a really good player who brings a certain speed to your offense that is rare even in the NFL.

It's not like he sucked in the championship game.

Can we just see how he does in TC first? You have him running on water.

Nonetheless, (lack of) size, pass protection, and propensity to fumble are not for wealth of talent. Counting on a 5th round draft pick to change your team’s fortunes is tantamount to counting on winning the lottery. It can happen. It is highly unlikely.

The talent is there at two positions to the extent that he can be your 3rd back and 5th receiver. That alone makes him useful because he allows you to carry an extra player.

But Blue can do a lot more than that. He may need a year or whatever, but I think they get him involved early and he ends up being a player...if not this year, eventually.

I think he gets a significant amount of reps in the passing game...

Some of his best plays were passes.

Tashard Choice has coached both and he compares them.

He's not smaller than those 2. Especially not smaller than achane

Was his fumbling as big of an issue as fans make it out to be?
Or is it one of those things, that can and will be corrected. But fans pick a weakness then exploit it as is happens all the time.
Kind of like some saying Pickens explodes and blows up about every play.
As someone who loves Blue as a prospect, it’s a concern when I consider why he potentially had so many fumbles - hand size. Is that fixable?

He had way too many in college for his amount of carries, and his hands are small. His hands measured at 8 1/4” at the combine.

This is not comparing them as players, but to put it in perspective using a player on our roster. Deuce Vaughn’s hands measured at 9 1/2”.

Coincidentally in college, Blue fumbled 6 times on 134 carries and 56 catches. Vaughn fumbled twice on 651 carries and 116 catches.

I do not know if that’s a coincidence. Is it?

Besides that, I love the prospect. He’s an electric runner. He brings the exact type of dynamic speed this offense needs.

Probably another year on PS with expectations that we lose Tolbert and Mingo next year and he can then make the team.

The others didn't drink the magic water at the entrance of Cowboys facility. Two sips and you are already better by two rounds. It's the magic water I tell you...
