Jaydon Blue aims to take Receiving Game to Next Level

As someone who loves Blue as a prospect, it’s a concern when I consider why he potentially had so many fumbles - hand size. Is that fixable?

He had way too many in college for his amount of carries, and his hands are small. His hands measured at 8 1/4” at the combine.

This is not comparing them as players, but to put it in perspective using a player on our roster. Deuce Vaughn’s hands measured at 9 1/2”.

Coincidentally in college, Blue fumbled 6 times on 134 carries and 56 catches. Vaughn fumbled twice on 651 carries and 116 catches.

I do not know if that’s a coincidence. Is it?

Besides that, I love the prospect. He’s an electric runner. He brings the exact type of dynamic speed this offense needs.
I never heard hand size for a RB as an issue for a RB. More so how they carry the ball. Maybe some concentration problems as they run. I never heard arm strength either, but that may be an issue to hold the ball better and tighter.
RB's tuck the ball into them, not usually carrying it in one hand.

I only heard hand size related to QB's. Since they do have it in one hand most of the time to hand off or passing of course.
Maybe a WR's hand size for catching or controlling a pass until they get the other hand on it.

I believe Blue's issue can be corrected with coaching.

He also wants to win the Rookie of the Year award...if he can play RB and receiver, he just might.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Jaydon Blue in Round 5 of the 2025 NFL Draft, hoping he could eventually develop into a major weapon in the offense, and potentially lead the room into the future.

Blue, of course, is not your traditional in between the tackles bell cow running back on paper. In fact, during his time with the Texas Longhorns, he was used much more in an outside running or receiving role than anything else.

And according to Blue during an interview with Kay Adams at the NFLPA Rookie Premier, it are his skills in the passing game that could help him become one of the greats in franchise history.

I love this kids attitude, I think he will be a good one for years to come here in Dallas. I think he will be as good as Tony Pollard or better.

I know. What I really love is how Pickens and Lamb help keep the safeties honest, which opens things up for JB.

He's gonna play some receiver, though, and I think that's where he surprises a lot of people. Way better at that than Pollard. Blue actually could just play receiver.
Lamb Pickens Turpin and Blue = confusion plain and simple.

By the way, this post made me think about this scenario and I had to think twice about it. After pondering it, that also makes Blue more valuable to the team for being able to man two roster spots with one roster spot, which makes room for things like DT depth or whatever.

I like Cropper then probably Brooks. Flournoy has been a stiff so far.
I'm not sure what you see in Cropper. Granted, I don't remember much of his preseason play. Flournoy caught 10/14 targets last year, his rookie year. Meanwhile Cropper has done nothing in the regular season in 2 years.

NFL defenses will eat this kid alive. He poses zero threat as an inside runner so defenses will know how to attack him. Only way he has success is out of two back formations.

I don't know, Jim. Why do you think he can't run inside? All he needs is a crease....

If Blue turns out to be as good in the passing game as he intends to be, Dak might possibly learn to appreciate his presence in a big way. Having an option to use Blue in that manner should turn out quite well and it might easily suit Dak well to have Blue as a dump-off partner. In fact, Blue's YAC averages should provide a big boost to his QB, whether it's Dak or anyone else. I love the possibilities.
Agree. He can turn a dump off into a nice gain. And many times it’s gonna be a LB trying to stop him in space. I like his chances lol
