Jaylon getting first team reps at MIKE in practice

With Anthony Hitchens out, Jaylon Smith took the first-team snaps at middle linebacker. Justin Durant took the second team snaps in the base defense but worked with the top group in the dime package. As of now, they will split the work with Hitchens looking at an eight-week absence with a knee injury.

I know they want to slowly work him back into the swing of things but I read somewhere he could have came back last year on a limited basis. With Durant back they can tag team the position until we get Hitch back. We can even put Lee there on obvious passing downs.

Fans are so in a rush to see Jaylon on a full-time basis......lets remember his injury history and that he's a rookie. We didn't have him at ALL last year and went 13-3...there's no need to rush him into things.

Probably Jaylon in base and Durant in Nickel for game 1.

If Jaylon covers well then he'll stay on the field. He'll have to outplay Durant which I don't know he can do. And I'm not a Durant fan for coverage; he's too inconsistent.

Durant was Nickel and Hitchens base last season.

I thought it would be Hitchens base and Jaylon Nickel but that's not an option now.

Durant is better than Hitchens in coverage but Hitchens is catching up or was. Haven't seen enough of Jaylon but we'll see him Thursday.
