All of our 'busted' 2nd round picks are still in the league

I never said anyone was a bust. I said they did not add great value here, judging by the number of we re-signed. That has little to do with those players, it has to do with our organization and use of resources. That's all I'm saying. Nothing controversial about that.

Also had a lot to do with the durability of Jason Witten

Nothing personal, I just get sick of seeing the same half truths over and over again

Red shirting guys is not as smart when you only get 4 years but taking a talent like JSmith at 34 is worth it

3 years cheap, then at least 2 more with the tag unless we work out an extension

Canton here we come!!!!!!

I'm certainly hopeful for the player, but to me listening to draft coverage it sounded like a panic move when they couldn't find a trade partner after those two DEs went right before. But if all works out then I'll be crossing my fingers for canton too. You'd like to think they understood something uncommon given that doctor was their own guy. Just at some point you have to quit swinging for the fences and try to get some solid doubles, imho, when you have a franchise qb.

I'm the guy who still believes Sean Lee will one day have all these injuries behind him for a good long time and fulfill his potential and good karma from that work ethic!

I think much of the two TE thing is squarely Garrett's fault (and perhaps started with parcell). Over the years I've read how we were going to run this two TE offense with those mismatch nightmare on the 2nd TE. Even before Escobar Jerry supposedly asked if this pick would change our offense (meaning we'd use him as this passing threat) which never materialized. So I don't blame Jerry for that one. I certainly can say Witten's health holds true for this last pick, those first two he was in his prime.

Anyway good to have a debate without insinuating internet insults - Have a happy 4th and know I'll be pulling for jaylon as much as you!

I think this is a bunch of handwaving involving confirmation bias towards team failure. Also speak for yourself. Bandwagon fallacy based on wishful thinking is a waste of everyone's time.

The next time I'm interested in your opinion will be the first

Also, if we take the words "hand waving" out, that would get rid of 90% if your posts

With Gregory you take him with the hope that counseling can get him on his meds and off the pot. Could be why he goes at the bottom of the 2nd VS Smith who went at the top because they feel Smith is simply a waiting game. With Gregory it may take more time to get him that stability ( if you ever can) then it would take for Smiths knee to heal.

Im extremely pessimistic about Gregory. A guy who's addiction stems from medicating with a drug is more of an uphill climb then do it for simple pleasure. But he isnt done yet

Ya I think Gregory seems genuine about quitting, maybe needs to get counseling, more help etc.

I was merely saying that both are really talented guys we got in the 2nd

What an inane, self important comment in what is a public forum. Well done.

I prefered the stories of Jerry Jones trying to outsmart people and acting like the board thinks with a single brain.

Gregory probably should have been a day 3 pick in hindsight with how much of a risk he was to fail a drug test. Pass rushers blind people though. Too bad he blinded us.

I wouldnt have done the Smith pick myself. With that capitol and how the draft played out I would have taken a player at a money position like WR or CB ( Thomas or Alexander)

I think the " Super Bowl for Tony" is alot of fan speak. I think they are saying it to get the fans to believe thats the goal. I really believe they take a QB at 4 if Wentz or Goff fell, and they tried like hell to get Lynch. I think there eyes are more towards the future then the present, although the Elliott pick sure does skew that

I agree with your comments about the future.

Building for the future is what the Smith pick was about.

They still hold Romo has a 3-5 year window.

So there is no urgency and the way all the suspensions have descended on us again..

its a tough way to start a SB campaign.

So I look to next year already.

Smith can be a great pick if he becomes healthy again, depending on the article I have read some reports that have me worried if that will ever happen though.

Name one gaping hole on Defense

DL- DLaw/Russell......TCrawford/DIrving.........Thornton/TMcClain.......Gregory/Mayowa

LB- Wilber/Gachkar..........RMcClain/Hitchens.........SLee/Wilson

CB- Carr/Mitchell.....Claiborne/Olatoye..........OScandrick

FS- BJones/Heath.............SS- Church/Wilcox

and with the draft we able to add MLB, DT, DE, CB, SS

Is this a trick question?

That Dline you spelled out has a combined 20.5 career sacks between all of them. JJ Watt did that by himself in 2014. And 8 of those are from DLaw who got them starting across from Hardy, which is obviously not happening anymore. Throw in the suspensions and if you don't think pass rush is a massive, massive question mark for this defense you are fooling yourself.

With Ro effectively done for the season and Lee missing time an inevitability, the rest of that LB corps is the very definition of JAGs. I can't think of a less notable LB unit in the league if/when Lee gets hurt.

In the secondary you still have Mo and Carr at the corners, who are going to be torched this year if the pass rush is actually as bad as it looks, and Church has been a constant liability for years. Scandrick is back but is 29 and coming off major knee surgery, who knows how effective he will be, especially again with the potential for opposing QBs to have all day to throw.

You did a great job of not answering the question....where is the gaping hole that would be filled by a pick at 34 that wasn't filled by our picks at 34, 68, 102- JSmith, Colllins and Tapper

DLaw and Gregory were highly rated DEs, Crawford and Thornton highly rated DTs

SLee, McClain and Hitch all are Pro Bowl level starters at LB

Carr, Mo and OScan are some of the highest paid CBs and solid vets

BJones, Church, Wilcox and Heath are probably the weak spot but BJones is a riser and Church a tackling machine

Well Smith is not playing this year - and maybe not ever - so there is a gaping hole at LB that could have been filled by taking Jack instead. Or we could have traded out of the 4 spot for more picks and addressed another edge rusher.

DLaw and Gregory were highly rated DEs, Crawford and Thornton highly rated DTs
Almost all of DLaw's production to date has come with Greg Hardy on the field. Let's see how he does when he is the focus of attention.

As for Gregory, he couldn't even get through the friggin combine without toking up, and followed that up by failing not one, but two more tests in his first season. His next suspension is a matter of when.

Crawford has health issues of his own and Thornton is known for his run stopping, not pass rush abilities.

Again, the pass rush is a major liability for this defense that was not addressed this offseason in any way. in fact it could legitimately be worse with Hardy out of the picture.

SLee, McClain and Hitch all are Pro Bowl level starters at LB
McClain is not going to be here until Week 11, and we all know it will be at least several weeks after that before he is anything resembling being in game shape. And that's if the team doesn't do the right thing and just release his sorry butt. Lee getting injured is in the category with death and taxes. And did I miss Hitchens making a Pro Bowl? When did that happen?

Carr, Mo and OScan are some of the highest paid CBs and solid vets

In a combined 8 seasons with the Cowboys Mo and Carr have a total of 7 INTs between them. 6 of them coming from Carr in his first two seasons here, as he has had none the past two. Money well spent.

BJones, Church, Wilcox and Heath are probably the weak spot but BJones is a riser and Church a tackling machine

I'll give you Jones but Church gets so many tackling opportunities because so many guys are typically catching the ball around him. And if he gets hurt Wilcox gets back on the field. *shudder*

You still haven't shown one gaping hole on draft day...RoMcClain didn't get suspended until this week and Hitchens is still right there- and I said Pro Bowl level.....if he starts all year at MIKE I think Hitch will be that good

You have provided one alternative and it is another injured LB...not a real strong argument

But please keep trying to kill the pick......it will look even better next year when JSmith is the free lottery pick we all love...all we did is traded #34 for a top 5 pick next year.....if we did that everyone would have collapsed in joy.....instead we get the player a year early and he gets a year of learning our team and working out

I'm not trying to kill the pick, although I do think drafting a guy that high to sit for a year was a luxury this team as constructed couldn't really afford. Like the Zeke pick, I can disagree with the logic behind taking him and still enjoy watching him someday play.

I was merely responding to you asking the question "where is the hole" and then listing a defensive starting lineup that is chock full of holes.
