So I was told that McCoy and Poe were gonna come in and make all the difference to allow Jaylon to be Jaylon. What now?

All those big mean O lineman get to rag doll him for another long and painful season.

Jaylon Smith was rated the 88th best player in the league by the NFL Network, top 100 crew.
That rather goes to show what a down year for Jaylon means.

I'd gladly take another season where he has 142 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 INT and plays 92% of all defensive snaps.
That 142 tackles tied for 6th most in the league.
Must have been a lot of dudes getting rag dolled.

I mean I visit this forum daily and did see people mention this as an advantage but A) it wasn’t discussed as some breakthrough that would save Jaylon's career. And B) Poe is the premier double team eater we picked up, McCoy is more the upfield pocket pusher.

Yes T-Craw is a step behind McCoy, but GMac going down isn’t some death sentence to the idea that our DT’s will help keep our LB’s cleaner.

Jaylon made a lot of tackles, but too many of them were 8, 10, 12 yards from the LOS.

There was not of lot of him playing downhill filling holes at the point of attack. Hopefully LVE is more proficient at this

Vander Esch makes Jaylons job easier.

Jaylon will ball out this year

That statement is really more about scheme than just talented DT’s. They’re going to do a better job of keeping the LB’s clean regardless of who’s there.

McCoy was no bigger than Collins last year. Now Poe is, but he’s still there.

It is the scheme though that is important to Jaylon’s ability to run to the ball.

Jaylon was a pro-bowl MLB that put up the same exact stats (or better in some categories) as Luke freakin Kuechley last year. The fact that this man is even able to play football [at an extremely high level] is amazing. The line was bad last year, even DWare had a bad year & Robert Quinn was beyond horrendous vs. the run which puts the LBs in a bad position because they had to constantly worry about his lack of skill.

Nothing and no one can bring back Jaylon after that crippling injury.
Another Jerry Kids project has gone wrong here!

If he has the quality big bodies in front of him would can disrupt traffic interfere , and he can be schemed where his strengths
can hide his weaknesses as much as possible, he has a chance to be a suitable player.

- I'd like to believe new defensive coach George Edwards will place the LBs in the best position to exceed.
Much more than what was observed from the last coaching regime.
That he'll improve Jaylon's read keys and shed-skills, simplify his coverage responsibilities use
him best where his forward ability can be best used on blitzes, stunts and in pursuit down the line.

- He's proven very durable, and he's weight room strong, but the instincts and change of direction
have been in question. That may play into in misdirection plays and RB screens being so effective against him.
But it's not totally out of the question that he can still be effective if right personnel is around him, and the right
coaches are around him.
