Jaylon Smith is back in the league

What could have been with Jaylon Smith if not for that college injury.

Had the talent to be a generational linebacker. That's not hyperbole. Instead he peaked at just "pretty good".
I don't think so. I feel like he would have been a bust for his draft grade. He simply lacks any dog in him... he wants to be in the spotlight more than doing the dirty work you need to succeed at LB. And his football iq at the nfl level was atrocious. I'm sure injury hurt his ability to cover players and chase players down, but he also often chose the wrong hole to contain more often than not

He had no instincts. The injury didn't rob him of that which means he never had them. Therefore, he was never a generational player.
I guess you could say that Jaylon Smith was a "leap year" player since he had the reputation of being a pile jumper.

Exactly.

Before his injury his physical abilities carried him. After his injury the lack of football knowledge was aparent.

It was embarrassing to watch him running over the field with no sense at all. He looked like a chicken with the fox inside the cage.

If he had football instincts or talent like Sean lee for instance he would have been a good LB even with his physical deficits. But the guy has essentially no clue about the game itself.

As a person you have to respect and like this guy. He had a brutal college injury and worked hard to get to be the very best he could as an NFL player.

Overall though as a Cowboy fan you must question the decision of using a 2nd pick to take him knowing all about the injury and that he would miss his rookie season. Couple that with a bad decision to sign him to an extension. But all of that is on the Jones boys and not the player.

I for one am happy for him and wish him all the best of luck. I hope he's gotten back a little bit of speed and can actually play a few more years.

He certainly looks in great shape. I'm sure he has been working hard and hopefully he plays great for them.

The Chiefs took Chris Jones after Dallas too Jaylen and when Jones came on stage and hugged the commissioner I thought this guys is a monster. Why didn't Dallas take him.

I wish him the best of luck and I hope he has a good year. What a tough break for him coming out of college. Who knows how good he could have been if not for that horrible knee injury.
