Jaylon Smith vs Randy Gregory

They were both supposed to be great. Time for them to be great...both of them. We've waited long enough.

Gregory is.

Jaylon played the whole season last year, and showed improvement. There is no surprise in him continuing down that path.

Gregory is a surprise only in as much as he many thought he would always be a pothead. The talent was never really in question.

Jaylon had a devastating, often crippling injury and came back to start in the NFL.

I don’t think this is even up for debate really. Jaylon being an effective NFL player is far more surprising.

They both have made it back from odds out positions letsl see what they do with it.

Jaylon Smith is a modern medical miracle if you understand the specifics of his injury. Gregory just finally put down the weed.

It’s insane to say Gregory is a bigger surprise

I assumed this was about their performance in the off season, not about them making it in the nfl

Sorry, but I disagree with the insane part. lol. I just didn't think he would be dedicated enough to actually show up in shape, much less be a stand out. I would argue that my position is completely sane, and rational. :)

And Gregory hasn't proven anything yet. The fact that Jaylon can start every game this early in his career already defies expectations. Let's have Gregory go a full season without getting suspended again.

I'd kinda like to see either of them do anything substantive in a meaningful game before I can profess any 'surprise'. Is this what it has come to - searching the ether for silver linings?

Back in the day we actually had tangible things to be excited about.

I'd say Jaylon because he's shown a lot more flash during the preseason. Notice him a lot more being on the field. Seems he will make more of an impact this season.

Need to see more from Gregory in terms of sacks and qb pressures.

Jaylon is the much bigger surprise in what he has done to come back. He's looking pretty good out there and that type of talent has no business on this team where we drafted him. If he's back to form we hit the lottery. If we're talking about character, I had already written Gregory off because I didn't think he'd get it back together.

The sad part is, Goodell can either call in a bogus drug test on Gregory, or a bogus sexual assault on Zeke and their careers are over.

I see that coming.

That said, Jaylen Smith is the bigger surprise.

There's really nothing bogus about testing positive. You either stay clean or you don't. Zeke on the other hand, you're right about that.

And there still is tangible things to get excited about. Don’t down play it.

You can’t deny it is not exciting that Jaylon is near if not already at 100% and that Gregory has made it to this point to get back on the field.

Both 2nd round picks that easily both would have been in the top 10 picks overall if not for their circumstances.
It is not like we are talking potential of late round picks.

So that in itself it something tangible. Did you say the same thing about Zeke before he played a down, how about Troy Aikman, same for him. I bet not.

I say neither is a big surprise. Jist had to be patient to get to this point. Though it is hard to do at times.
