Some of yall really need to find another whipping boy. I realize Jaylon is washed but why be mean? Did he give himself the contract? Would you have turned it down?

Of course no one would turn down that contract. He could have a touch of humility and a lot of self awareness, though. Quit talking and put in the kind of work that the contract deserves. If he can’t live up to it so be it but he doesn’t also have to be arrogant in the process.

Jaylon was the best of the worst last season on defense. Especially the second half of the season. Our D is gonna shock the world with the addition of Parsons and BMF. Add a Jaylon and LVE with better coaching we gonna be a problem....

I absolutely hate when a player becomes a whipping boy. It's just so stupid.

Imho Smith can be a great asset to the team. IF he's a backup/situational player. The coaches have to put him where he doesn't have to think - "Jaylon, line up here and at the snap of the ball rush the quarterback" or "Jaylon you cover the a gap on this play" or "Jaylon you're the spy on the quarterback/tight end/running back, just go where he goes"

And I'm not saying he's clueless as to how to play NFL football, I think he's lost for the most part (if he ever had it after the injury) the side to side movement that playing linebacker requires.

He's just not a top starting NFL linebacker, put Parsons, LVE and Cox in. Yes that's 2 rookies at linebacker, but this is a young team, might as well set up the linebacker corps for the next few years (if LVE stays healthy, of course, if not Jaylon will have to be the starter)...

Rushing the passer also requires side to side movement.

Sometimes, if he blitzes straight up the middle it doesn't....
Not worth keeping him for the 4 plays per season when he can be schemed w/ no defenders in front of him. Lateral movement is everything in the NFL.

If he can't move laterally then he's useless except for limited plays, that's for sure, but I think there's more than 4 plays a season where Smith can be at least minimally successful, which is my point, don't make him one of the players who plays a lot of snaps...

Then his salary needs to go away.
