I'm not sure taking him off the field helps. I think he's only on the field because the team's looked at the backup options and decided they're not any better.
In an ideal scenario where we have 3 stud LBs, sure, Jaylon could roam the sidelines and only get put into the game in certain situations or packages designed for him. But when the staff has looked at the depth chart and decided he's one of the best 3 LBs available to us, they'd be hard-pressed to bench him just based on the idea that his development might be aided by going slower.
I'd like to see them give him some chances to "attack" more. It feels like he's mostly in "react" mode all the time. Maybe give him a heftier dose of blitz assignments to give him a chance to pin his ears back and attack somebody. Maybe that would help things click and shift him from "react" to "attack."
I'm not sure how much of his poor play is based on his health/injury, and how much is just being rusty. If it's an issue of no longer being as athletically gifted as he was before the injury, I'm not sure what can be done except hope for him to figure out how to play smart instead of relying entirely on raw gifts that he no longer has. If it's just about being rusty, I feel like things could click and fall into place at any time -- probably more likely to happen while actually playing as opposed to watching other people play from the sideline.
