can play for my team anyday of the week...

He's gonna be one of those guys who gets the "Can't" tag - he can't beat guys deep , he can't play ST , he can't go over the middle etc
The same things they said about Rod Smith - Wayne Chrebet -Steve Largent -Todd Christensen - Tom Waddle - Drew Bennet etc etc ...

I think the Dallas fans would love him

If he chooses football over baseball. Signed with the Cubs I believe.

Did not know that - is he that good a babseball player? what does he play? b/c obviously baseball is the better career - money wise, injury wise , longevity wise.

Is he actually labeled a "can't" guy? If so, I'm not familiar w/ it.

If he runs a decent 40, I can see him going as high as the 2nd round. Nice big target.

I like him too, but after Calvin Johnson, there are no "blue chip" receivers in this draft IMO. We have plenty of talent at WR already on this team...if we're going to get a WR in the draft, it HAS to be a tremendous top 10 prospect, IMO.

Give me QB, OL, NT, and DB all day on Day 1.

He's a pitcher, go figure. Apparently he throws a 95mph heater.

Samardzija agrees with Cubs, will play for Irish in fall

ESPN.com news services

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs agreed to a contract Sunday with fifth-round draft pick Jeff Samardzija of Notre Dame, a star wide receiver for the Fighting Irish football team.

Samardzija's deal is for five years and worth up to $7.25 million, a source close to Samardzija told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Once the deal is approved by the commissioner's office, Samardzija will join the Boise Hawks, an advanced rookie club of the Northwest League.

Samardzija will be able to play at Notre Dame this fall. His plan is to play professional baseball and football after graduating Notre Dame and he is a possible first round draft choice in the next NFL draft.

The deal is backloaded and Samrdzija would have to continue to play baseball in order to approach the maximum value of the contract.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native caught a record 15 touchdown passes last fall. He then went 8-2 with a 4.33 ERA in 15 starts for the baseball team.

Joe Schad is ESPN's college football reporter. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I'm watching the LSU game now and I'm kinda intrigued by Dwayne Bowe. Good size and seems to have some "yac" ability. Not sure what his 40 is, but his build reminds me of Andre Johnson a little. I'd be willing to spend a 2nd or 3rd if available.

He could be a 2nd day steal if teams are scared off by his baseball commitment.

They won't be. Round 1, maybe. Day 1, no way.

WOW... had no idea he wanted to be a two-sporter in the pros.

I'd have to think his baseball club won't like that, especially if he's a pitcher. An outfielder a la Bo, Deion, or Brian Jordan would be no big deal. But as hard as it is to find good pitchers, and with the Cubs' recent luck with young ones, I'd be surprised if a big league contract didn't have a Henson type "You Can't play Football" clause.

He has plenty of speed, so that is ok. Now the question is can he take the pounding he will get in the NFL? Seems pretty tough, but he is a little thin.
The way he catches is tops; and he seems disciplined on his route running, which is actually kind of rare. Of course being that tall is a huge plus. I look for him going somewhere in the first rd. Probably mid to late. I don't think all that many will be scared off by the baseball thing- too many have done it by now.

I love samardzijas hands. That one catch that he made on the first touchdown was great. Even though it didnt look spectacular, it really showed how good his hands are. Over the shoulder fingertip grab. I really like this guy.

But personally, if I were him, I would choose baseball. Especially as a pitcher. You sit on your arse for more than 1/5 the season and get paid big. Somehow I think he will choose baseball

I think a great deal will depend on which NFL team drafts him. He will chose baseball if he gets sent to a real pit like Detroit, or Houston, or Oakland.

The Cubs DID have some promising young arms but due to injury , he could see hiimself in the Windy City quite quickly , College Pitchers - bluechippers usually don't need that much Minor League time...
Obviously , the money is insane as a MLB pitcher ala Chan Ho Another One goes out the Park , Jarret Wright etc - you can pitch until you're 40 plus yrs of age and just make insane GUARANTEED money.
Kenny Rogers is 43 , teams will want him til he's 46 or so ...

it depends on how competitive he is, and which sport is his 1st love, if he's very competitive, I don't think sitting on his arse would be appealing to him, and he would choose football, but if baseball's his 1st love, well, there's nothing football fans can do about that
