Don't know what happened to Jenkins. Likely he got too full of himself and rode Wade's Candy Land Express through the offseason. There's a bit of hope he can rebound.

Ball, there is no hope. He's awful.

Combined, these two have to be one of the worst combos in the league.

How was this team so wrong about Ball. Which fool vouched for him.

Ball might be decent at something but its definitely not playing saftey.

Jenkins, I think, is a player who plays to the level of his team. When the defense is going great Jenkins looks great. When the defense is having issues Jenkins will be at the forefront of those. Huge physical talent, small brain is what it seems like to me.

I do not know if Jenkins can be salvaged? He has a good upside but man his downside is horrendous.

For Ball though...put a fork in him. Pat Watkins would have done a better job this season

Or Ken Hamlin.

As far as the rest of it goes, though, I'm a pretty staunch DB supporter...and I think Mike Jenkins would win the award for "Player Who Has Most Regressed" in the ENTIRE LEAGUE. I want him to do well because the ceiling is so high, but he's really gotten much worse compared to last year.

Ball is just a CB, plain and simple...the experiment failed. Thanks Wade and Dave.

Campo has to go. Too many DBs have taken a step back.

I can't for the life of me figure out what happened to Mike Jenkins this season, or if he'll ever be able to recapture his form from last year.

Not a fan of ball at all wasnt since the get go this season.

With that said ...Jenkins-we already know what he CAN do.. can he do it again? who knows we'll find out next year or whenever there is football again lol..

Ball hasnt played at the level that Jenkins did at his position , ever. Sensabaugh was a fill in and honestly hasnt done well either season hes played for us.

A few rambling statements now the core what im getting at..

Pressure and saftey play have made our corners look pedestrian . Newman is getting older but he doesnt appear to be much worse off than he was the past two seasons or so.
Jenkins has taken a step back this year..

But Ware has been the only consistent pressure we've had this year and even he's had a down year with more double teams etc..

Ratliff cant stay at NT for us he will excel with a true NT . He has fallen off this year and we only became effective on d under wade when he came on. Spencer has taken a massive dive in terms of pressure, Olshansky not as good as he was last year. Spears...eh we already know what he's all about.

Brooking has clearly begun to age a little too much. James has been lackluster at times good at times bad. you can say that about the d as a whole IMO.

But were going to need better help over the top, a true solid saftey. Or two... And an upgrade on the D line. A true NT will help our run defense get back to where it can be and free ratliff up . If we keep this Phillips 3-4 he will be ok at end. first objection im going to get is that he will face all pro LTS and RTs and get ownedddd gelfkjlksdfjdaf Double Teamed with G and T's..

Yeah well if we can get consistent pressure up the middle and off the sides they wont be double teaming Ratliff very long. Yes Ratliff was all pro playing out of position but could be better at end..

Spencer maybe needs to be replaced or platooned.. We switched D coordinators mid year i know. But yeah a properly put together d line , upgrade at lb..and Upgrade at SS FS.. Newman and Jenkins will be just fine.

Well I have to say this is kinda on the money about Jenkins. He is just the type of guy that either feeds on positive or negative karma.

When things are going great for him and the team, he will play like a world beater but when things are going bad he will get his head down and start making mistake after mistake. A great CB is supposed to have a short memory and not let anything from the past bother him for the next play......well Jenkins ain't like that.

I don't think Jenkins should be benched. We have to win games and become a cocky team again, then Jenkins will produce.

I have no idea WHAT he was doing on that 70+ yard TD....it looked like he tried to dive/tackle him before the ball was even in the air.

Didn't he make a comment during the offseason about not having to practice or work as hard?

I remember reading something like that and shrugging my head.

Here, having to adjust to two differently demanding types of defensive scheming is cullprit as well. Wade called for them to turn and man-up in coverage. Pasqualoni calls for zones, and long drive successes.

Poor Ball, was a young cornerback last season, and a free safety this. Not good for someone who's hustle at top speed is just serviceable at best...

Jenkins was on his way to being a premiere corner this year instead he regressed and stunk. Too bad if he would of developed more this year he could of been our shutdown corner we've been looking for. This year has hurt his chances for a nice contract but after this year that ain't happening. I'm not into cutting Jenkins but if he has a bad first half next year he needs to be replaced and he will.

In other franchises, GMs are often held accountable for these kinds of decisions.

Thank you!

Aren't we some lucky fans these days.

The defensive schemes changed a lot in the middle of the year, so I'll cut him some slack personally. He seems like he plays out of position too often.

On that 26 yard pass to Fitz (on 4th down...which kept their drive alive...which won the game for them) I was SCREAMING at the TV because whoever was on Fitz was playing off BY ELEVEN YARDS. One of the best receiver in the league, and we're playing off by 11 yards?

I expect Jenkins, with a full training camp under a new defensive scheme and a HC in Garrett (I predict) who will rip him a new one, I expect he'll play better.

That said, I am praying we can land Patrick Peterson. We need CB, S, OG, RT, and DT (in that order, I think) pretty bad.

All players have strenghts and weaknesses. I´m just trying to figure out what Balls strengths supposedly are. He cant tackle, cant cover, can´t intimidate WRs in the middle, no noticable ball skills, can´t quarterback the secondary. Some say he´s a ¨natural¨ cornerback. I would question how ¨natural¨ playing cornerback comes to someone who move beyond the 4th CB spot after 3 years at the position.

Jenkins was already 2nd worst in the league in passing yards surrendered by a cornerback in the NFL according to Stats, Inc heading into the Philly game. That was before DJax caught a 97 yard TD on him and then it´s hard to believe last night didn´t cement him as a shoein for the unofficial 2010 NFL´s worst cornerback award.

Jenkins is actually very good, and that's obvious week in and week out. Ball, however, makes every look worse than they are.

Yay for cutting Ken Hamlin!

And Newman is #2. Does that make each of them the worst 2 CBs in the NFL a season after being two of the best in the NFL? No, of course not. It's almost certainly a symptom of something else.
