Jenkins?

So the refs thought he was a great guy and treated him nice one year and then got mad at him and treated him poorly the next?

I'm saying he had a couple legit calls to start with, but then the refs started looking for it on him and called every little thing he did. He had a history of it to start out the season so they would look for it. I'm saying that he was called for ticky tack things that the refs would let, say, Darelle Revis or even Terence Newman get away with.

I said half the calls. I'm not denying some were his fault, but I do think he was definitely picked on.

It's not the same officiating crew every game, so unless refs are spending their off time watching game films of all the teams and focusing on individual DB's and the number of penalties called on each, I don't see how this makes much sense.

I don't see how it's that hard to see that it is possible. Refs spend a good amount of time preparing for games each week. If they see that Jenkins has a habit of PI calls, then it's human nature to be looking for it. Players get a reputation around the league. It would be hard for them to ignore it.

I still say the refs allowed him to play physical (which is his style) on deep routes in 2009 and then suddenly decided they would pick on him last year in 2010 with all the PI calls.

They got nitpicky on him and he started playing scared and gunshy. Any sign of contact from Jenkins and flags flew. Teams figured that out and targeted him more, and he didn't make the play because he was afraid of getting a call.

Tell me half the PI calls on Jenkins last year would have been allowed for Darelle Revis. I think so.

I picked up on this also but was afraid to mention it. Thanks for doing it for me.

anyone knows how mike jenkins is doing in this offseason. Any workout tweets. Any news of him working hard because we need him to step up or hello scandrick (who plays better on the outside, slot is the hardest cb position to defend).

There is no way that studying game films in a way that estaqblishes preconceived notions about players is considered game preparation for officials. In fact, I would be willing to bet that it is striclty taboo.

Even so, there are 64 starting CB's in the NFL, 64 starting safeties, any number of nickle and dime DB's, and LB's all covering receivers, and of course their are 64 starting WR's and maybe another 60 3rd and 4th receivers that get significant playing time that can and do commit offensive pass interference as well. It's pretty far fetched to think they are researching each that closely, which, again, I have no doubt would be against league policy.

That's a pretty far fetched conspiracy theory.

And like I said, I can't recall feeling the calls against Jenkins were unjustified. I just don't see that the "lets blame it on the refs" mentality makes sense.

You know, sometimes Cowboy players just play poorly. It happens.

I agree. Clearly there will be questionable calls but I saw nothing to make me think anyone was picking on Jenkins except for the opposing QB.

At this stage I still have confidence in Jenkins to turn his play around and play closer to the level he showed us in 09

Jenkins is not a zone CB, nor an off man CB, he is a press-man CB like an Al Harris or Charles Woodson. He is talented enough to still develop, hell he just turned 26. I think Ryan will make Jenkins into a monster. Scandrick and Thomas I think can become really good no. 2 and 3 CB's with Ryan coaching them too. They both are feisty and can be really scrappy.

Jenkins just needs a heavy hand in coaching his technique and lighting a fire under his arse. Ryan will do that.

Seemed to me that Jenkins was usually a fraction too late last year when he was getting beaten. Jenkins has a great burst of speed and I feel like he uses that to try and bait QBs into throwing toward him but last year for whatever reason he just wasn't _quite_ getting there. So many times he was really close but is that being too cocky, risking too much or maybe just not having the ability for whatever reason?
That's how I see it anyway.

Jenkins certainly played well enough in 2009 that it doesn't make sense to give up on him. If he can get back to that level then we are in good shape, and if he plays more like 2010 then he will be on the hot seat.

It comes with the price of fame. :laugh2:

Because he played poorly last season he will enter this season with a big bulls eye on his chest as QB's will look to attack him. He will get ample opportunity to show himself and the kind of player he is

The Curious Case of Mike Jenkins

I hope we get the 09' version of Jenkins back this year. (And I think we will)

Anyway, article suggesting maybe Jenkins was playing through some 'injury' which kind of makes sense as the guy just went from top 10 to bottom 10 over an off season.

So cheer up. :D

jenkins is a press corner, man on an island. for that to work effectively, you need a pass rush and effective Saftey play to back him up. last year we didn't have a pass rush and then on top of it all the team, specially the defense fell apart.

This is the truth. He will probably be tested early and often.

It also helps when you do not get beat off the line of scrimmage as badly as he did at times. Yes a Pass rush in important but to lay it all on the pass rush? Sorry he has to take ownership of his poor play.

how BAD Ryan will ride him? He better be working out and working hard, cause if he isn't............:bang2: This kid was despicable last year....just putrid.
