Jerrah states we're in the hunt for the title... this year

I think if most fans were the team owner, they'd be spouting off a lot more than Jerry :D

No team owner will publicly give up on a season after only 6 weeks of games no matter what their team's record is. In this case, the Cowboys are one game (loss column is all that matters) out of first place so I am sure that's how Jerry is looking at it. Then again, the 1-4 Saints are not "out of it" either and they are 4 games back in their division :D

While I agree it can be annoying to have a team owner say something like this especially after losing two games in a row including one after a bye week, for me, it would be worse if he was saying the season is over now.

All I know is that since the 90s, every time the Cowboys start a season strong, they fade. At least this way if they make it to the post-season, it will have to be on an upswing rather than a "hold on for dear life" fade at the end.

Wait so the owner is not part of the team? Bill Gates is not part of Microsoft? The Rooney's aren't part of the Steelers? Mark Cuban isn't part of the Mavericks?

My gosh that's a reach.

That right there is the mentality that is killing this team. You of all people know better.

If anyone who is a part of the team doesn't believe that this team has a chance to compete for a championship this season, they have no business being in the NFL.

:hammer:

Though from my perspective (as a fan)... they have no chance.

The entire "culture" of the organization is the problem.

Jj's a huge homer lol. Drunk maybe??? Not this team not this year!!

Just what I feared - the 'ohhh look we almost beat dem der Ravens!' logic has gotten to Jerry's head.

"All of those things give us a chance to take a team that is, if you look at the pluses (Sunday), evolving into a team that can compete for the championship. Not next year. This year."

Isn't that the goal of every team, front office, staff, towel and water boy? The Super Bowl! This early in the season, anything is possible. Why would Jones say anything less? And why should he? Oh wait, to appease you guys.

You'd likely not be hearing that from a good Coach after our showings.

There are reasons for not touting a team like the Cowboys....more than most.

And this has been the problem for this organization. They feel entitled to put their name out there as a contender without putting in the work to do so. This team can't execute worth a damn in late game situations and can barely run basic plays without screwing up...this is far from a contender but nope, because they're the Cowboys, it's automatically assumed that they can and should contend every year despite ignoring the team's flaws and what holds them back in the process.

I wish we had leadership who would just be brutally honest - we're not a good team and we won't be contending for anything until we correct the fundamental mistakes that have been plaguing the team EVERY year. Super Bowl? Playoffs? How about just running the right play properly, without committing a penalty, dropping a ball, etc. You do all those things then of course you'll be in the hunt for all those things down the road. But instead, Jerry tries to put the cart before the horse and it definitely rubs off onto the players.

GM/Owner is not part of the team, his Role is to keep his mouth shut, let the coach, coach, and assemble the talent to win a championship.

It been 15 years and we're still not there.

Enough with the BS

I somehow missed the book on the role of an NFL owner/GM, but I would guess that it doesn't say anything about them keeping their mouth shut. Some of us really need to quit hanging on every word out of Jerry's mouth.

Look for the book under "successfull franchises":laugh2:

Hes always referencing teams from the past, whether its the 90s Cowboys or the recent Giants.... its like a fantasy because hes having a hard time looking at the 2012 Cowboys on some real

I've got no issues with him saying that. It neither harms nor helps the team. It sells copy.

So what?

I seldom answer you directly, but will this time.

So what?

If the GM is telling a team that is falling on its face that they have a shot at the title when they have exhibited nothing in the way of being truly competitive at a high level, it is gross mismanagement.

Telling the players they stink on ice and changes will be made is what leaders do. They don't sugarcoat it, or gloss it over. They state the case.

Now one can make the argument that he may be doing this behind closed doors. I doubt it, but then I'm not there.

But to follow up and send mixed messages at best, or be totally about selling tickets and somehow sending signals to the team everything is okay smacks of stupidity.

Seeing it any other way makes no sense since this team needs a wake-up call.

The cluster-frick at the end of the game where the head coach and QB could not get the knot heads to the line of scrimmage to run a play and maybe win a game should cause both the coach and to be ripped a new one by the GM.

To then underscore it was okay by making an absurd comment that this team has a shot, which sends the message that not getting to the line was hokey-dokey is leadership at its worst.

I am not saying Hos that you are a bad guy here. And this has nothing to do with our history.

I am stating you are wrong about how you think on this. Nothing more.

We are currently 2-3. According to Bill Parcells, you are what you are. I don't believe he said you had to stay that way.

To throw a little sunshine into the pity fest ... the opponents we have faced this year are a combined 16-7 against all other teams. The worst of the lot, Tampa Bay, is 2-2 against teams that are not Cowboys. In other words, we have faced some pretty good teams.

That makes it all the more frustrating that we could have a lot better record if we could have cut down on shooting ourselves in the foot at critical times (like when the game is being played:D).

IF we CAN cut down on the obvious errors, this team can still make some noise this season. That might be a really big 'if', but if we do it, the playoffs are a strong possibility. I believe we have the talent on this team to play into January. We obviously have to get our act together, though, before we can even think about the postseason.

This next game, against a lesser quality opponent, is critical to the team's future.

Other than Rex Ryan, what Head Coaches run around telling people they are going to win a Super Bowl?

I'd rather not hear that kind of talk from Jason Garrett, but I don't really care if he does either. The goal should be the Super Bowl.

I really don't understand this comment.

Are you saying that if Jones only kept quiet, the Cowboys would suddenly stop losing games?

Or, are you saying that if Jones would only say that we are doomed, the Cowboys would suddenly stop losing games?

Either way, I would like to know what you base your premise on.
