Would we have any interest for 3rd WR? Seems pretty reliable, can return kicks and his salary structure with the Jets didn't appear to break the bank. Apparently there is no room for him with the Jets with Holmes, Plax, and possibly D. Mason going to the Jets now.

His play really started to decline last year. I believe he is a good teammate though, so If he came here it would have to be on the cheap. I'm all for giving the young guys a chance too though.

I read somewhere that him and Philip Rivers are really good friends and the thought was that if he was released Rivers would make a big push for SD to go after him.... Might have been CBSsports.com not possitive though...

Not sure i'd take him over giving one of our guys a chance. We can do better, but if not than start Ogletree.

41 catches for 433 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games last season while sharing time with Bray Bray, Holmes and Sanchez' security blanket Dustin Keller. I think that is pretty decent production for a 3rd WR spot. Also, if one of our top 2 went down this guy could step in. Has some credentials outside of the game that seem to fit the "Garrett Guy" approach.

If something happened to Austin or Bryant who would you feel more comfortable starting - Cotchery or O-Tree?

Exactly.

If I'm Stephen, I've already made the call.

nope, it's time to give Kevin Ogletree his shot now.. He has showed flashes & I believe he is ready for the challenge of being a playmaker on this squad

hmmm....don't know how I'd feel about it. I have no issue with Jericho, seems like a decent player, but I also have no issue with giving Tree his shot at the #3 spot.

I wouldn't mind if we pick up this guy if it doesn't cost us much, in fact i've always liked him. I would still give Ogletree the opportunity to take the #3 spot but i like the idea of having this guy just in case of injuries or in case Ogletree can't become consistent. He was more reliable than Braylon Edwards for most of last year, although that might not be saying much. He is not a TD machine but more of a reliable possession reciever.

Year G GS Rec Yds Avg. Lng TD
2010 14 5 41 433 10.6 49 2
2009 14 12 57 821 14.4 53 3
2008 16 16 71 858 12.1 56T 5
2007 15 15 82 1,130 13.8 50 2
2006 16 16 82 961 11.7 71T 6

I like Cotchery, I just think a team will give him a pretty decent contract that we really have no business offering right now.. definitely would be an upgrade at WR but his previous years before being the 4th option he showed to be pretty reliable so someone will overpay

One thing that makes me lean toward Cotchery as well is that he has starting WR experience. He just wound up taking a demotion after guys with sexier names and bigger contracts came in. I want Otree to be successful but he consistently gives me the vibe that he will just fall short of taking it to the next level over and over again. So close but just can't get there.

Plust Cotch could give us some week 1 details about the Jets :D

Truly.... F the guys we got after Austin and Dez. We got no proof of these guys outside of practice. I'm tired of hearing about Ovaltine. I haven't seen anything from this guy outside of whats been blogged about him.

We need tough guys like this....

Here is another one.

Well, i just heard that he wanted out of NY because he didn't want to be a #3 behind Plaxico so, he don't won't want to come to big D and be a #4 or possibly a #3.

He's gonna be a #3 practically where ever he goes. I mean he was #3 when he was a Jet. I figure he'll be a Charger due to the fact that they'll be losing Floyd.

Perhaps the brass feels confident in Ogletree, but they've been content on a lot of things that turned out bad in the long run.

The Newman thing was kind of a fluke(or not historically in the fans eyes). But a guard and #3 option would make me feel better about our chances this year.

listen man, you have Dez-Miles-Witten-Bennett-Phillips-Felix-Murray.Ogletree is having another great camp & we likely don't have the money to go after Cotchery after signing Spears-Hatcher-Sensabaugh-Elam-Free even though 3 of those 5 were cheap contracts.. We need to see what these young guys can do, if Roy doesn't get hurt, we would've never seen what Miles was capable of.. Little things like that, you just don't want to slow players progress down, Otree might be a lil gem in the slot. Trying to get younger and better man so we have a team for years to come

If he was dirt cheap and wanted to be a #3, I'd say go for it. Ogletree has never shown he's ready to be a 3, or a 2 if an injury happens, and we have no idea what we have in Harris. That being said, Cotchery probably wants to start, and not for dirt cheap, so there's that.

Cotchery would make an excellent #3 WR. Certainly better than Ogletree.

I believe he was slated to make 1.5 mil with the Jets this season. I'm not sure about all the "dirt cheap" guys but that is cheap enough for me for a 3rd WR and also an insurance policy for him to step up to # 2 if Dez or Miles go down.

I do agree, however, that he probably wants to start somewhere. Can't force him to be a 3 unless the market tells him so.
