I will go on record not wanting MM back in any capacity, but just like the player contracts, this organization has failed to the worst degree:

-Should of fired MM after last year's playoff loss, but decided to allow him to be a lame duck coach, which never happens in this league.
-Played around with MM thinking they could do whatever they want and he will return.
-The way they did both Dak/Lamb contracts hurt this team on and off the field. They waited to the last minute and could of saved millions if they decided to do them a year early.
-If we see a "puppet" head coach hire, we know they franchise is set to return to the Dave Campo 5-11 seasons with no hope for the future.

There is no if. It’s a when. And it won’t be 5-11 bc this won’t be any different than any other hire. It will be a puppet , just like all of the rest of them. We will be a 500 ish team w no ability to win

I think the exact opposite happened. Jerry got this exactly right. He didn't bring McCarthy back.
The result may have been right, but to the point of the original poster...the approach was a failure. time and time again, JJ and team manage to screw up the easiest of decisions. I agree you should never let a coach (and entire coaching staff) continue as a lame duck...either re-sign or cut bait...same thing with contract negotiations. if you know you want to re-sign a player, do it immediately instead of waiting until every other player has reset the market. JJ always thinks he is as sly as fox...when in reality he is as dumb as an ox.

The published word makes sense. The Cowboys didn't want to give MM a 5 year deal. I get both sides.

Looks like it is to be KM unless he says no.

Zero respect for any coach that takes an incentive based contract. I hope he drops this idiotic idea, but I doubt it.

Remember Garrett got 10 years .........I'm guessing Jerry was determined not to make that mistake again. It also confirms how his monetary value, not winning controls his decisions. Any other owner would hired Mike, and gave him the 5 years not worrying about if he was to fire him after 3 years and pay off the final two.

Add the fact that they signed Dak and Lamb to huge contracts. Argue whichever way you want to about those contracts but doing this and then firing the coach and bringing in a new offense is just idiotic. Why sign them when you are basically in a rebuild?

Points to hiring Kellen Moore since he knows the offense

Seriously, I would find it difficult to respect any coach willing to work with the Jones's.

The only candidates I can see are desperate retreads willing to sacrifice their dignity for an opportunity or unqualified young coaches with no other immediate opportunity to be an NFL HC.

You have former coaches, coordinators and college coaches there are plenty of them
I would hire a HC that:
1) knowledge of a modern offense
2) disciplinarian, knock off the penalties

I was referring to the micro subgroup of college and professional coaches that would be willing to work as a HC for Jerry Jones.

The sticking point isn't qualification, it is willingness to accept a diminished role as a HC until it's time to hand out blame.

I think thats more of a media talking point then the truth, coaches will go almost anywhere for money and the opportunity

Sorry but it just doesn’t feel as if there’s any plan.

Mike is gone because they didn’t want to pay him the going rate, not because he didn’t deliver.

It’s like signing a DT in FA….’HOW much per year?’ Nah we will just draft one.

It’s not about what’s needed or some plan to win by adding the right people…it’s a case by case basis as to if someone is worth their money as determined by Jerry and his cheap kid.

No its not the annual salary its the amount of time, they wanted short term contract as an extension not a brand new contract

Mike Fisher said this is the "blow it up" plan

For a couple weeks I started to think they would bring him back, which was the opposite of what I thought the entire season. This was a difficult decision for Jones, but ultimately the one he wanted to make but didn't know how. He decided to use the contract negotiation platform as a way of getting out claiming they couldn't come to terms. Everyone knows if Jerry wanted McCarthy back it would have happened and not get held up over a year or two on a contract.

I think it was the right call to get a fresh start, but they could have handled it better in letting McCarthy interview earlier with the Bears.
