Bye week or not, the Cowboys are going to make some news and they did just that on Thursday when they sent a 2021 seventh-round draft pick to the Patriots in exchange for defensive end Michael Bennett.

Bennett lasted less than half a season in New England, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Dallas will be the right fit for the pass rusher.

"The scheme that they had him working in up in New England had a lot to do with us being able to trade for him," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "Probably didn't utilize what he can bring as much as we will be able to utilize it. Secondly, he likes to play. He wants on that field. And you say, 'Well, duh. Doesn't everybody?' When he's not on the field, he's not as happy as when he can get out there and try to make plays."

Well now I feel so much better about this move sense it was so eloquently explained by our GM. And Our coaches have such a rich history of “utilizing” veterans as opposed to the Pats coaches.

I don't think it about our coaches being better than the Pats. He just simply wasn't a good fit for their D. Hell, he did pretty good last year in the Eagles 4-3 D.

He's actually a move that the team hasn't made in recent memory. Usually, they like what they have and they don't want progress stoppers.

I agree DAL does seem to squander or improperly utilize talent, but Bennett has a defined role with playing time already carved out... Bennett > Crawford.

2¢: If I'm Joe Jackson I watching every rep MB takes. I think Joe can get some valuable insight on how to win from studying MB...because he has a more comparable body type than Tank or Quinn.

Even if we don’t use him properly and we release him before the season is over, whatever nightmare situation some envision, who cares.....this is a low risk gamble at greater depth in the rotation that is a no brainer as far as cost.

Best case - Bennet makes plays and helps our pass rush.
Worst case - we kicked the tires and stayed with what we have.

I don’t really disagree, but it’s also possible that his being traded from NE had more to do with Bennett’s reluctance to accept his role with the Pats, (part-time, situational), coupled with his attitude, than his not being capable of fitting into their defense. Belichick rarely brings in a veteran player who isn’t able, physically, to fit into their scheme, but Bill B won’t hesitate to jettison a player who demonstrates that he isn’t happy with the role he’s been given.

I’m glad we got Michael Bennett on the cheap, and that the Cowboys plan to utilize him differently than NE did, but how he fits in and how productive he is here remains to be seen.

Tell ya, hard to read this and NOT get excited about his addition, especially considering he cost us next to nothing.

Hard to watch the tape and not get excited. Especially from the DT spot, dude just blows up guards. They’re just not capable of handling the moves he puts on them.

I’m trying not to let my expectations get out of whack, but I can’t wait for the first third and long when we have Tank, Collins, Bennett and Quinn out there.

This should have a domino effect of creating a lot more pressure, thus forcing bad throws and creating more turnovers.

Dang bye week!! And we have to wait until next Monday too!!
