The Cowboys do not have a good pass rush and they're about 4 players away in the front seven from having a good defense. Some of the coaches they're considering have done that job before and aren't exactly spring chickens. They're likely a gig away from retirement and this may be their last opportunity. They also inherit a team with a strong secondary and pass rush, while likely get an opportunity to help influence some LB and DT decisions to fix the run d. Take a top 10 d and with some tweaks perhaps they become a historically good d.
In the wrong directionYou just get a sense that Jerry's 3 moves ahead of everything.
Parsons and Lawrence are strong at end. Osa can pass rush, but I get the feeling that he'd be better suited as a situational rotation guy. Williams is a knucklehead, but has flashed. Overshown and Dono both have the ability as well. I think the secondary made them look great the last two seasons, when in reality, they're just pretty good. With Diggs coming back, I expect more of the same. They aren't perfect. 4 pieces sounds about right, but the ones that are tough to find are already on the roster. I don't see how our situation wouldn't be enticing to the best defensive minds. The Cowboys do not have a good pass rush and they're about 4 players away in the front seven from having a good defense.
The only coaches that would want a coordinator job with a lame duck coach are those who are being ignored by all other teams and they have no choice. You just get a sense that Jerry's 3 moves ahead of everything.
I think a DT and LB is what they're missing. They had DEs that can get after the QB and provide pressure and that worked very well until teams started getting the ball out faster. Would love someone like a Laroi Glover or Jay Ratliff there to collapse the pocket a more in the middle. The Cowboys do not have a good pass rush and they're about 4 players away in the front seven from having a good defense.
Hi is a mental Goliath! You just get a sense that Jerry's 3 moves ahead of everything.
Yep. Jerry is the puppet-master, de facto HC. He loves being in control and calling the shots trying to be the architect. It never comes close to working, but he's making money and having fun tinkering with his toy, so that's all that matters.Jerry is right if you look at how Jerry rarely fires coaches under contract. So if Mike isn't extended the DC will most likely stay in place under the new HC the following year. Just like KM was retained when Mike was hired.
