With the contracts for quarterbacks going higher and higher, Jerry Jones knows the Cowboys are in a must-win mode now with Dak Prescott playing on his rookie contract. “He’s going to get his extraordinary contract, but while we can put the team together and take advantage when he is on this contract right now, we’ve got to be real astute to maximize that advantage,” Jones said. “We’re a team that has a high priced offensive line, and it gets a break with Dak right now. It gives us a chance to do some things on defense. This basic dynamic of salary structure won’t be with us but for a year or two. So I guess what I’m trying to say is we need to take advantage of where are contracts are.”

Sounds good except the part about Dak getting an "extraordinary contract."

Just shut your trap Jerry
Not a huge Jerry fan but he does own the Cowboys. People telling him to "shut his trap" cracks me up. Maybe Jerry should go to their house and tell them to "shut their trap" about say...a new car or bike they just got. Their house, wife and so on. Jerry will never shut up so people need to get over it.

Take advantage of the situation. Who knew. It's only the first rule of a competitive situation, or even life.

The draft and training camp can't get here soon enough.

Maybe another Dez Bryant thread to help pass the time:)

Jerry will NEVER convince me that The Clapping Carrot is on the hot seat....I am through believing that he wants to win at all costs. He treats this team as his own personal play pretty, and gets ZERO satisfaction out of winning with a strong figure head opposite him. I used to love Jerry....now I wish that he would just ___. I can't say it; bad karma.

Jerry's a turd. It's just sad. Garrett isn't on the hot seat. More players and years will be wasted.

Take advantage
Get ready for barn busting deals for the Nolan Carrolls of the world.. .

"He also points out that the Eagles’ success despite injuries eliminates a big excuse."

Why would he bring that up then? No excuses for JG next season.

If we make some smart signings in FA, I'll believe him.

But my guess is the old fool and his son think the roster is actually much better than it is, we can eschew FA again, and we will fix our holes in the draft, likely taking another OL in the first round. They'll try to recreate 2016. Control the clock, get eventually let down by the defense.

Yeah I have the same thoughts as you. What excuse is that Jerry?

Let's note, he's made these statements before and nothing every comes of it. Remember, he was the one who said it was unacceptable that we didn't get more wins from our backup QBs in 2015 and yet, nothing changed with the coaching staff.

He likes to talk tough but he can't bring himself to rid the team of the real problem.

Already conceding a huge contract to Dak is the antithesis of pragmatic.

We've been spewing excuses for over 20 years surely there's a couple more.....thousand

Can you imagine any other NFL “GM” so blatantly showing his hand to the rest of the league — especially when he didn’t have to?

Hey, Jerry...so what happens if, by the end of his rookie deal, Dak and the team haven’t yet progressed beyond the division round of the postseason? You still gonna overpay him?

If not talking was the only thing that would keep him out of Hell, Jerry Jones would be telling everyone how he would handle Satan.

Jerry is telling us he’s going to try to copy Seattle with their early days of Wilson and building a stellar defense...

I mentioned this in October....

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/sense-of-urgency.387257/

Reading the forum this week I've noticed a lot of statements about this being a "throw away season" and some are comfortable with that as long as the rookies on defense get experience. I do not get this train of thought at all. First of all, Jason Garrett does not deserve anymore throw away seasons. Second, we cannot afford any throw away seasons right now with Dak nearing his contract extension. You're supposed to take advantage of this time while he's cheap like the Seahawks and Ravens did with their quarterbacks. Do you guys realize how much harder it's going to be to build this team once Dak is taking 1/6th of the salary cap (especially with the stooges running the front office)? Where is the sense of urgency? I hope to see some today because Dak's extension is coming whether you like it or not (see Kirk Cousins). We need to have a championship by then or else we could fall off a cliff like some have once they paid their quarterbacks. Wake up Boys!
