Tom Coughlin's Cow-pokes turns up heat on Giants-Dallas rivalry as of late

Two days before the playoff game, Jones distributed two game tickets to each of his players... two tickets to the NFC Championship Game the following week, which would have been played at Texas Stadium had the Cowboys beaten the Giants.

"If," was not in Jones' thinking. Losing was not considered an option by the Cowboys

The morning of the game, Coughlin heard about Jones' ticket distribution and informed his players prior to kickoff. Shortly after R.W. McQuarters intercepted Tony Romo in the end zone with nine seconds left to clinch the 21-17 victory, Coughlin gathered his players around him in the visitors locker room.

postgame speech
With his players' eyes on him, Coughlin seized the moment. "I don't want anybody talking about this in the media," he said in a real serious tone, then with his right arm extended like he's holding something in his hand, he tells them, "Jerry just sent the tickets over. So, we're all set."
He breaks out in a big grin. The roar from his players could probably be heard in the Cowboys locker room next door and all the way up in Jones' private box.

I read this earlier, and I don't see anything wrong with giving out tix ahead of time. Typically playoff tickets are even sold ahead of time, even though there may not be a guarantee of a game.

If Coughlin used this for motivation, he is a mere buffoon who doesn't understand how NFL playoff tickets are sold and distributed.

You know, there's "brass balls" and then there is "brass stupidity".

Jerreh sometimes falls into the second category.

I think I read that that was just a story that Coughlin told his players, but Jerry never actually did it.

I'd have to do a search for it, but I read that that story isn't true.

Goose mentioned that Jerry never did this.

Coughlin made the entire thing up.

So.... either way it was BRILLIANT on Coughlin's part.

I thought this was discussed here before the game. Was Coughlin saying this publicly before the game? I don't remember.

Give Coughlin credit - he had the 5th best team in the league but managed to win the Super Bowl anyway. His team played the best when it mattered most.

Agreed... Jerry just needs to take one game at a time.

This is like Jerry Glanville saying the Cowboys had champagne on ice in the locker room for the last game of the 1990 season. They didn't, but it motivated the Falcons.

See, here's the thing. I'm not sure why you have to make up something like this to motivate the players.

It's a playoff game. That should be enough motivation.

So we have the wrong players?

I think that was their little motivation tool we are the underdogs and blah blah blah we don't get any respect and w.e.

Nope.

I think our guys were motivated.

They just made costly mental mistakes. I don't think that necessarily has to do with motivation. Not sure what it has to do with. Maybe nervousness?

I agree, but in a win or your out playoff game.... anyone, everyone is looking for some sort of edge.

Agreed and yet Romo gets major props for almost being part of a gamewinning/NFC title game advancing end of game play.
