Whether Jerry realizes it or not and whether or not that was his intention, he's set the bar now with all his bluster the last week or so talking about how great this team is, how they are "different", etc.

After the fluff that came out of his mouth this week, certainly if this team fails to make the playoffs this year, Jerry can't sit there and then think all is well and not making major changes, including the head coach.

It would be depressing as a fan to witness Jerry say what he says now and then come the offseason have him start justifying why this coaching staff needs to stay despite this "different" team not making the playoffs.

Jerry has set the standard. He's essentially said this is a playoff team right now and a team that can make some noise. If they fail to achieve that, it would be the height of stupidity for him to then spend the offseason talking about what a nice job this staff did.

This team is different. I am not trying to beat a dead horse, but with even a top 15 NFL QB, this team is sitting at 10-2, maybe even 11-1 right now. Facts are facts and the Cowboys are now structured as a dominant team, minus a great starting QB. It truly is the only missing link. All you ban wagon Dak fans don't get it. Yeah, we are winning some games, yeah we are in every game we've played all season and with a great franchise starting QB, we'd be blowing all these teams out. Seriously! Why are they gonna sign Dak to a long term deal? It makes no sense to me. I like Dak, I think he's a great guy, but he just lacks the natural skill set it takes to be a great QB.

I get what you're saying, but nothing JJ says has any impact on my personal expectations for the team. I go by what I see play out in the games. Up to this point in the season, they've played extremely well on defense and mediocre (overall) on offense. I expect that they'll win the division and one playoff game, perhaps. I have no expectations beyond that, regardless of what Mr. Jones says. JMO, of course.

If we can somehow find a way to advance in the postseason, I will have to say this is Jerry's best season as GM without Jimmy or Parcells.

That's contingent on us winning in the postseason, so I'll put away the anointing oil for now.

100% but I think if Dak would run more then it could really elevate our offense.

Him sitting in the pocket trying to be Aikman is not good. He leads the league in fumbles because of this and he only has 14 TD passes which is pathetic.

Our run game is not a juggernaut either. It's good but it's not dependable like it was in 2016.

Dak tucking it, running more, and making throws outside the pocket would un-bottle this offense a lot.

Dak needs to step it up if this team wants to go to the next level. Or for him to take it to the next level. However one looks at it. How he does that, is up to him to decide if he wants that. He can't just think it will all come together. He needs to work at it and want it more so than ever.

I see improvement, but that is also from a team improvement. He needs to step up his pocket awareness, and ball protection.

It is gut check time for this team as a whole. Show us you belong to be the division champs. Then take that to the playoffs.

It all comes back to QB play that will determine success moving foward. Defense is not going to be lights out every game nor is the running game. If Dak takes that next step then I'll agree with Jerry .

Jerry is simply promoting his product.

Jerrys football stupidity doesn’t have any boundaries. Lol

It bothers me that his comments always seem to be about the players and never about the coaches, specifically about his hand-picked head coach. If these players are "different" now, these coaches should be "different" as well. How about some equal accountability?

I'm not looking for a Lynch mob mentality, I'm looking for equal footing, where everyone is expected to do their job well. Jonesseems to make the incorrect assumption that the coaches are doing everything right and that it's now just up to the players to execute that "perfection." Far from the truth.

The weakest part of this team continues to be the offense, specifically the passing game. A passing game resulting from the input of the head coach, his appointed offensive coordinator, and his appointed quarterbacks coach. Your running game is fine, despite none of these guys having much interest or much of a track record of being hood with it. It's goo despite them, not because of them.

The strongest part of this team is the defense. A defense coached most by the new guy you brought in. And do-defensive coordinators who are focused on what they do best, one coaching the front end (Marinelli) and the other coaching the back end (Richard). They're holding up their end of the deal, by far.

So yeah, if Jones is setting a standard, just make sure you set it for everybody.

The Cowboys have been talent dependent basically since Jimmy left except for a few brief years with Bill.

Coaching isn’t a strength Jerry allows as it could ultimately take more credit away from him if we have success.

Jerry wasn’t satisfied winning championships with Jimmy for his ego wanted more credit than he received.

As a result we’ve been left with this dysfunctional organization we continue attempting to overcome lesser coaching and mgmt with talent.

Whenever we have more talent, we have more success.

Technically this team is a playoff time right now however will they still be four games from now is the question.

Jerry says whatever he damn well feels like saying. And if fans are depressed at the idea of him saying one thing and doing another, I believe he’s ok with that.

That said, this is probably going to be a playoff team anyway. The question is going to be how Jerry feels about wherever we exit the playoffs. I think Garrett probably does need to win at least one post season game.

Pleasantly surprised to see you say that.

I think if he makes the playoffs, there is no chance Jerry makes the change.

They might push Linehan out the door though.

as fan winning the division and making the playoffs is great but at this point with this coach and owner and our NFCG appearances drought since 1995/96, I think thats the Bar..is this Jerrys Bar? the only downsides are if we do say win 2 playoff games does jerry keep the entire current staff and players as is?

Go for it if it makes you feel better

The reality is that Jerry thinks this team is good enough to "win" be "relevant " and make the playoffs so whether we make the playoffs or not he will find a way to justify it to himself and tge fans

Bottom line is that no matter what happens from here on out the pressure is not on the coaches or jerry or players . Nothing will change except maybe Linehan and Marinelli exiting

That's just where I'm at. And I could honestly live with that. All I've asked for is accountability, and I think if Garrett manages to get the team to the playoffs, even I can see the reason why he shouldn't be fired.

But I do think that Linehan should and will be Fire, no matter what happens. He got everything he wanted for his offense (and Rod of anyone he didn't) and his results still suck. Accountability for him does deserve firing.

And I think that if the team actually brought in a more current, progressive, and innovative coordinator, this offense can be far better than what we're seeing. At various points, virtually every one of the offensive players has shown that they can be better than what we're currently getting.

Why are you expecting an intelligent decision out of our moron GM?
