Jerry and the Cowboys have actually been making moves lately that solve problems:
1. Special teams stunk. Coach Joe and Buehler helped fix that mess. But they still have to find a consistent FG kicker. Buehler is going to work at that skill in the off season, and Folk could be back in the running too.
2. Locker room chemistry. I was a scoffer about team chemistry, but it sure seemed to make a difference this year. Getting rid of TO, Pacman and Tank, as well as adding the fiery Brooking, did good things for the team.
3. Finding a deep-threat receiver. He was on the roster all along, but Miles Austin had the proverbial breakout year. If only the supposed #1 receiver had been more productive. But maybe RW will find a way to get on the same page as Romo or will have his role reduced as someone else steps up. I don't want to overblow Ogletree, but from preseason on, he and Romo have been in sync.
4. Find a second TE for Garrett's 2-TE sets. It was supposed to be Bennett, but John Phillips has shown talent. If Bennett can carry his preseason production into the regular season, having 3 quality TEs could pay dividends.
5. Use Felix better. It's still not a consistent thing, but Felix Jones is getting the ball in his hands more and more. The injury to MBIII may have been the cause, but the "more Felix" trend seems likely to continue.
6. Improve the defense. Wade taking over as DC began to pay dividends this year. The defense stopped playing 28 minutes a half and started playing the whole 30. Spencer came on, Jenkins came on, the Sensabaugh signing paid off and the whole unit looked pretty dynamic. Now improve that defense a little more so it doesn't just play shutdown football when Commanders or Eagles are the opponents.
7. Stay healthy. Anyone want to make fun of "Camp Cupcake" anymore? Or "Victory Monday"?
Now Jerry just needs to have a good smart draft, to get the injured guys like Brewster, Brandon Williams and Hodge back to see if they have anything to offer and to hold the staff and team together as tightly as possible. The O-line will need work or at least depth. But like the teams of the late 60s and 70s, you just have to keep hammering on the Super Bowl door, year after year.
