How is that a lesson in loyalty?
Perhaps 'test' is a more appropriate word than 'lesson'. It depends on the accuracy of Adam Schefter's information, which was Jerry Jones not giving automatic approval for Chicago to interview Mike McCarthy. The loyalty test is determining how badly McCarthy wants out of Dallas.
It is simple. McCarthy will be out of a job January 14th IF Jones and he cannot extend their current professional agreement. McCarthy could
choose to wait until January 14th and take his chances for securing new employment elsewhere. OR McCarthy can take advantage of interviewing opportunity before January 14 and agree to a job offer
before his employment formally ends with Dallas.
Jones may be interfering with McCarthy's future job opportunities by blocking suitors from interviewing him. If McCarthy is both not serious about taking another job and wanting Jones to make him another offer
before his current contracts ends, McCarthy passes the test because he is being
loyal to Jones. Otherwise, McCarthy does not pass the test if that is not the case.
